Hi,

Just wondering if anyone out there using NTL has been hit with their throttling system introduced recently.

I havent seen much of an uproar on the internet about this yet....

My 10Mbps has gone down to 3Mbps :(

they dont have a throttling system as far as i know... still getting a blissful 490kbps 24/7 here

I'm on 10meg NTL and can't say I've noticed any throttling. Do you know if it was certain ports only such as the default bit torrent ports or something ?

I'm still getting 1.2 Mbps download rates over port 80 (HTTP) and 119 (News). If they start throttling anything I use I'll just tell then to swith my billing to whatever the cheapest one is like 1 meg or something.

If telewest are anything to go by, they have been testing throttling in certain areas of the country during peak hours.

I really do hope that this doesn't happen.
If it is I'm changing providers.

i've noticed varying d/l speeds from newsgroups but have done for quite a few months, one day it'll be up and down, another it'll be 1mb/second constantly, ho hum

It's the newsgroups im having issues with. Back in August, my NTL speeds never really fell below 7Mbps so now Im getting 4Mbps during the daytimes (i think it speeds up somewhat during off-peak hours)

Well, have to say that sucks! It seems all the ISP's these days want to impose some sort of limit on the downloads.

Another thing telewest has done recently that has really annoyed me is to limit customers' ability to send batches of emails. Even small batches of 20 emails don't go through - looks to be about 2 per second maximum is allowed. I complained bitterly to their customer support depertment (via their online system) and was completely ignored.

Their spam filter allows me to receive about 30 spams per day of a stomach churning sexual nature. I am not a prude by any means but daily doses of this stuff gets to you eventually. However, their spam policy protects the internet from me sending small batches of emails to my family and friends. I think they put their spam filter in backwards.

Further - I moved house a couple of months ago and have to congratulate the administrative chimps at Telewest for being so utterly inept and incompetent at every point in the change of service from one address to another (except for the actual cabling work.)

There are good points - technically the service is still pretty good and the installation guys are superb. Lions led by donkeys.
