Question for anyone who's on NTL and is using usenet, what speeds are you getting?
I've been unable to get more then 8kb/sec to 100proofnews, yet everything else is fine and a speedtest gives a near perfect 10mbit.

After asking the right people the same question NTL are apparently not throttling ports, they are however suffering congestion in certain area's and in the process of doing upgrades. However if everything else is fine then it's most likley a 100proofnews issue, try one fo the free alternatives and see if you get better results.

I use NTL for usenet and on my 10Meg connection get down speeds from 400kbps to 1200ish kbps. The free NTL news servers are ok for text but no good for binary stuff. I would try another newsgroup provider or submit a ticket to the one you are with.

Plus try the usual open ports on routers/firewalls at your end. In my area NTL do not throttle

It turned out it was my mistake. I has NNTP set as 'bulk' instead of 'Standard' on my QoS setup.

Back to downloading at line speed now :)

I will give you a tip..quit 100proofnews..they have a reputation for being very poor, im with Giganews £13 a month 90 day retention..European server...full 10mbit all the way...I was with Newshosting for 2 years..but since they have gotten strict and limited connections to only 8 speed suffers badly during peak times due to NTL crap peering to US.. I left and joined Giganews...well worth it :p
