what do you mean installing it?

If you want to connect a new computer up to a cable modem are you using a switch, or a router (you need a router unless it's the only PC to connect to the modem).
Are you rebooting the modem before connecting the PC, if you are swapping between 2 PC's.

Is it a problem with the software settings for email or the like?

Is it a problem with connecting the modem to the PC for the first time after it's been installed?

what kind of problems are you having? My sister in law has been trying to get her new ntl 1mg connection ntl:250 modem working for about 2 weeks now.

The pc I gave here works fine on my ntl conenction at my house but not at hers. It basically keeps losing the connection every time you try to browse or do anything.

I've spent about 3 hours and a few phone calls to tech support and although one did admit he could see the problem he said it was spyware (it wasn't and isn't) another one tried to help me but couldn't quite understand i was using Win98 se and not xp, and the head tech guy said iy was "the irq on my DOS box" and told me to ignore the fact that a ping -t gets a reply until i start browsing.

Oh and they kept insisting that I needed 128Meg of ram and that was why it wasn't working.

Complete muppets.

the modem has been swapped by an ntl installer, he also said that it wasn't working becuase it has only 64meg ram.

So i went round and plugged in another 64 Mb that i luckily had lying here, and they are sending a (real) engineer out on monday.

Problems like this you mean?> :)

Well I've been having problems since around christmas, it's been getting worse especially at peak time the web-browsing & lag every now & again in games is quite bad.

Last week I rang NTL Tech support they tested my connection there end & didnt know anyway they sent an engineer round 2 days later, apprently he said theres these things called UBR's which are running over capacity due mainly to there £30 telephone/digital cable/1mb cable offer, he said they are currently adding new UBR's around the country & it wont be finished till sometime in february - once its done it will be running good again.

Kinda sucks though, especially for the old customers who have had there connection around 5 years.

Well the muppets at ntl sent out THE SAME GUY that couldn't fix the problem last time. Guess what?

Anyway my SIL has told them to stuff their internet. Ntl sucks. Boo hoo.
