I have a mac and I am looking at getting NTL's 3 for £30 a month package I want to use an elgato recorder to record tely, is this possible? also what cable modem do you get with it? I want to be able to share the internet connection via a router, but having only ever had ISDN and ADSL routers I dont know much about this.

Not sure on the recording TV - if the Elgato will record from a video input then you could connect the VCR out on the STB to the Elgato box. It's very unlikely it will record directly from the NTL co-ax feed.

Cable modem type depends on area as NTL operate more than one platform. There will be an option to connect via ethernet on either the STB or separate cable modem option - so just plug that into the router. It's just like an ADSL or ISDN router but with an ethernet port instead of a phone socket.

if you go for the 3 for £30 you'll end up with the set top box cable modem, there is an ethernet out port on it and it is usable with a router

Not necessarily - I had the three in one when I lived in Glasgow and got a separate cable modem, whereas my parents have always had an STB modem in Manchester. Depends if the area was originally Cable and Wireless (Bromley) or NTL (Langley).

Cool, cheers, I think I will get the Elgato EyeTV for DTT Stick as i get E4 on there and I can record stuff on Sky at my parents house, so I will just get 1MB broadband from them and use the ethernet on the cable modem to connect to my wifi transmiter. which is currently connected to my parents adsl router. as my wifi transmiter has built in internet sharing and dhcp.

Not sure the Elgato DTT can record from a Sky box either (same problem as with Cable). It's all down to whether it can record from an analogue source (some DTT tuners can, some can't).
