Hi guys,

I looked a pc a while back that failed to boot with the message, 'NTLDR is Missing' – I showed it to a friend who, from what I can remember, either copied a couple of files from the xp cd or actually took the boot drive out and scanned it/fixed it from a working pc.

I'm now looking at another pc (one of my own…) with the same problem! Can anyone enlighten me because I'm really struggling to remember? I know it didn't take much to sort it out.

Any ideas?

Cheers!

Usually caused by corrputed files, boot into the recovery console (F8 at boot if it's installed or use an XP disc) and run 'chkdsk /r', once finished exit and reboot, if that doesn't fix it report back.

Thanks for the reply mate!

I found a site that did the trick in the end...

I needed to copy;

e:\i386\ntldr c:\
e:\i386\ntdetect.com c:\

From the windows cd. Problem solved!

You should now work on finding out why it was a problem in the first place else you run the risk of it happening again or losing data too, verify your drive is in good condition by using the diagnostic software available from the manufacturer.
