Apologies for the stupid question but maybe you can tell me what i'm not doing right. I ran nTune to overclock my 8800 GTX. I change the settings and select "Test" and it always says "test failed". Even when I "test" the stock settings. It seems to come back with a failure almost immediately.

Mines the same

I've noticed that if you install rivatuner to start your overclocking, ntune usually starts to work whereas it doesn't if you don't.

DOH!!!!

Yes this is normal,

If you wnat to clock your 8800 I would use rivatuner. :)

Thats what I use and my clocks are 650/2000

Easy

I installed rivatuner but there's no overclocking tab in the "system" section??? Just an nvstrap tab. What on earth haven't I done?

GAH

Might it be possible for me to get higher clocks with Riviatuner over ATi Tool, at around 630mhz core my GTS seems to lock up and I have to reset the computer.

At around 630, you're gonna be reaching the limits of what the card can take, not the limitations of the overclocking tool.

ntune is borked atm until nviia fix it, i use NVtray which is great

i use NVtray as well, and mines GTS is running dandy at 675Mhz core and 950Mhz (1900) memory :) n-tune hates these cards, as does rivatuner and ATItool i discovered, niether of those let me overclock, they just crash my computer constantly

ok

Just to confirm - not a single overclocking app works with vista?

gutted.... just got vista installed.... everything works perfectly... now i find out the overclocking apps dont work.... oh joy!

allegedly the latest ATi Tool beta works in Vista as well but haven't tested it so can't confirm.

Latest version of nTune does apparently. :)
hey, nice spot young man. The older version was a bit carp (nVidia? Really? Never!). Let's hope this is better. Can anyone confirm whether things actually do anything in this version (XP or otherwise)...

The new beta of atitool works in vista but my card\drivers\soul won't take any overclock on the core (although the memory takes it)
