Hi,

My mainboard has no overclocking options. (MSI K9NGM2) Even with latest Bios updates.

My CPU ( AMD X2 5000+ Black Edition 2.6Ghz - Unlocked Multiplier ) is running under a zalman cpu cooler @ 26 degrees idle.

nTune has 'tuning' facilities, if i set to 3 hours CPU tuning, could this cause any damage?

Furthermore, has anyone used this feature prior to this post and as a result, got feedback to offer?

Would like to squeeze out some extra performance as opposed to shelling out for a new AM2 chip

Software overclocking is crapola.

Overclocking your CPU is as easy as changing the multiplier in the BIOS...most 5000 BE chips do 3-3.2 ghz on stock vcore or very close to stock.

oh sorry, I don't know how I missed that. :/

Anyway if the ntune thing works and gives you a mild stable OC then there's no reason it would cause any damage.

Also instead of considering getting a new chip I would think about a new mobo as the 5000 BE chips OC well :)

I tried that 3 hour tuning jobbie. Crashed my system a good 30 times over the 3 hours before getting stuck at 4 minutes to go and refusing to go any further. At that point it had managed to squeeze an incredible 10mhz out of the cpu and 5mhz each out of the gpu core and memory.
