I've been watching Boardwalk Empire for the second time around. Can't believe how much detail I missed when I watched it originally though there are so many rival gangs, political factions and peripheral figures that I guess it's not surprising some of it went under the radar.

But what a wonderfully complex character is Nucky Thompson. Played brilliantly by Steve Buscemi. Loving Chalkie White itoo, as I did the first time around. Not long now before Bobby Cannavale makes an entrance - can't wait for that :-}

This is about the inly show where I don't skip over the opening credits - that opening sequence is a work of art.

Any other fans?

Really enjoy it, the last season is obviously rushed, which was a real pity but then that’s the issue with these series, they eventually run out of good will from the studio and are forced to drop story lines without anything but a single line of dialogue.

I've seen the first two seasons of this so far and the best character is Richard Harrow. There is something about any TV show which has a character with some kind of affliction you automatically feel sorry for, and who is kind of emotionally detached or has no emotion, but with a heart of gold, who also happens to be utterly skilled in one specific activity, which in Richard Harrow's case is cold blooded execution of those who deserve it. So many TV shows seem to have this type of emotionally crippled but otherwise technically gifted character who can be relied upon to kick arse or solve problems.

Many otherwise excellent series end kind of in limbo because of this don’t they.

That said, I can think of one or two that went all the way and had shockingly bad endings. Sons of Anarchy and Game of Thrones both spring to mind.

It's a good show.

I won't spoil it for those still watching (if you really don't want to know anything stop reading now) but I recall not being overly impressed with how the "conclusion" for Richard Harrow played out and when it came to Nucky himself I thought that the ending of the show was not only obvious but frankly rather hackneyed. And apparently a significant departure from the actual history on which it was based.

Richard Harrow completely messing up the assassination, not taking the shot then killing the wrong person and getting killed himself. Nucky being killed by Tommy Darmody after Nucky had been trying to help him. Chalky White's demise was a bit weird too. I understand killing them off to wrap up their story lines and deliver "justice" in some form, but I think it could have been done better.

I loved Boardwalk Empire but recall watching the penultimate episode of the final season and having no desire to watch the last one, and that’s how it stayed. Absolutely fell off a cliff.

I haven’t watched it in ages and need to again. Nucky’s wife really gets on my **** though.
Same as the Sopranos wife and Breaking bad wife. Interchangeable annoyance.

Loved BWE, I need to do a re-watch now it's been about 8 or so years. No real complaints with any of it.
