So i am watching Mission Impossible 4, hence the thread.

There is a storyline about Russian nuclear launch codes and how the codes have fallen into the wrong hands. Surely these codes can just be changed by the Russians, problem solved? :confused:

I've noticed this in several films and i don't understand the significance of the codes as well as i thought. :o
 
We'll have none of the common sense talk, that wouldnt make much of a film, could you imagine.

Brilliant opening action sequence, some spy cartwheeling over laser beams to steal the codes.

some geek at a computer terminal for 5 minutes typing away...

Codes are changed every day.....also the codes don't actually launch the missiles, they access the hardware/software that allows the Identity, Security and Authentication protocols to be instituted.

To ensure correct and proper use of nuclear weapons surely there has to be only one set of codes to launch? If it were editable from some workstation would that not present more of a risk of "misappropriation" than a small metal flight case? :p idk, drink has taken it's toll

These days the process is biometric anyway...you woukd have to have the biometric data of the President (or Russian equivalent) to proceed, and even then there are protocols including the SIOP and the various predetermined actions etc etc........

The chances of bypassing or circumventing the nuclear protocols, even of Russia is virtually impossible.

I want to know why no evil genius has thought os useing sa bank of say six 4" diameter pipes for ventilation instead of 1 foot wide easily crawl able conduits?


I mean illegal evil lairs are hardly subject to building codes.
 
Or when they capture the good guy they don't kill him straight away, instead just sit around and wait for him to escape.

BUT, what for arguments sake. Say the president of the USA, get's up this morning. Feels a bit low and gets his 'briefcase' and decides to launch a all out Nuclear Strike.

Can he do that on a wim? Is there anyone to physically stop him from doing that.

Just a curious thought.

Not really HALO jump from a 747 onroute to Moscow airport onto the White House. Dodge the laser beams MMA fight with Putin, chop off his hand and cut out his eyes, use those to access the devices on the Typhoon you just appropriated and there you have IM:5.

@ SideWinder - now that you have sorted out Mission Impossible, could you please explain what is wrong with "The Matrix" . . . and "The Bible: In the Beginning", that one is REALLY bothering me?

Well I haven't actively felt a sharp ***** so far but I have replied to a bhavv post a few minutes ago - it wasn't very sharp mind and like I say commented on rather than felt.
