So, I have a couple of very annoying magpies in my garden.
They are making an absolute racket all the time, particularly first thing in the morning.

Also, one of them is terrorising my cat. Keeps dive bombing her. She doesn't know what to make of it really, but I think it is annoying her.

Any ideas what I can do to get rid of them.

In before Nuke them from space etc etc

Was thinking about getting an Air Rifle. Just, not sure if it's illegal to kill Magpies?

was a refference to another thread lol,
I think it's illegal, and air rifle, just to get a magpie,
call some animal help line

Just borrow a friends rifle go into the garden and fire it up into the sky. Magpies are attracted to shiny things so the bullet will lock-on and kill it.

Sorry but had to laugh - makes a nice change from cats tearing the local birds to shreds! :D

get more cats to eat the birds? It's not illegal if they kill them :). No seriously I am not sure what you can do really, see if there is some sort of animal advice line that can give you... advice

If your not a very good shot buy a 12 guage with some spread cartridges and fire into the middle of them.. Or buy a couple of eagles

I didn't see anything there that would fit in with this scenario. Which bit?

those general licences relevant to the all year round control of ‘pest birds’ such as carrion and hooded crows, magpies and woodpigeon. Control methods allowed under general licence may include shooting; the destruction of eggs and nests; and the use of cage traps such as larsen traps, larsen mates and multi-catch traps.

Then read the page specifically to General Licenses where you live (i.e. england - http://www.naturalengland.org.uk/ourwork/regulation/wildlife/licences/generallicences.aspx)

If they are attacking your cat then they may be viewing it as a threat to their nest / chicks which could be nearby. Wait a few week until the chicks have fledged and they will probably move on.
