Morning all,

My friend wants to build his first gaming pc, I've asked a few questions as to what he's doing on it and need a little help with the CPU in regards to what he needs.

So it will be mainly a gaming PC but he will also be looking to do abit if Video editing aswell, I said you'll need something with abit of poke to it but no need to go all out, he doesn't mind going down the used parts route so what would you all recommend l, he doesn't mind Intel or AMD Ryzen.

Thank you

Should be supported by all chipsets providing there was a updated bios available.

No they work on most AM4 boards all the way back to A 320 with the correct bios.

Example check CPU support list.

B550 supports pcie4 which most of the 5000 seeies has, some are pcie3 like the 5700g and 5700.

B450 is pcie3 but not a big deal in terms of performance , but the m2 drives will be only pcie3 as well so something to consider.

Thank you I'll take this into consideration, may just see if I can get a MSI Tomahawk at used price

I paid £120 for my MSI Tomahawk MAG b550 around Xmas time. It has loads of features. I would imagine it should be cheaper now. Nice board, but like anything else an acquired taste. (Rainforest btw)
Oh really that's a good price I will search around and hopefully grab a bargain

Whatever you get, make sure it has the latest bios or a way of updaing bios without needing a older gen CPU.

Yeah true, I have a Ryzen build myself so could always use that CPU to update the BIOS if needed
