Hello,

I'm after a new number plate holder as the one I have on my focus is cheap and tacky, probably because it was very cheap!!

Like This

The ones on Audis and Mercedes look much neater.

The purpose is that I have private number plates and rather than getting new plates made every time I get a car, I can just transfer the plate and the plate holder. They are also meant to be very useful for preventing thieves, which is a bonus I guess.

So where can I source one from, does anyone know?

Surely you are better off using numberplate tape. Looks clean, neat, still avoids screws and means you don't need new plates when you change cars.

I had these on before I bought the number plate holder. And both my front and back plates fell off. I can only assume it was down to water getting in behind, and whenever I reapplied the plate to the sticky pads water would seep out.

I replaced the plates on my fiesta and my CTR because the fiesta had ST logos on and the CTR had tatty plates with the GB logos on

I prefer plates without any logos or clutter and just the plain text on there.
a local plate supplier did me the plates and gave me a pack of screws and a pack of stickies each time I got plates from them

the sticky pads come in packs of five and if you use all 5 on each plate, they will not budge after that.

looks a lot cleaner than having screws or plate surrounds imo

any number plate maker should be able to provide you with these.
the guy in the shop told me he has hung his bathroom mirror up with them because they are that sticky. :p

Cheers, last time I just used 3 for each number plate and aligned them vertically, so maybe with another 2 going horizontally this may help!

Velcro strip from Halfords. It will NEVER fall off! I promise.

The only problem I can see here is that my number plate bends around the front and rear bumper slightly. Would this not put a lot of strain on the velcro? With the sticky pads you can get different mm depth to avoid the problem a little.

The Focus plate needed thicker pads because the screw holes are stepped out a bit. They're still attached to the car 5 months later :)

Personally I wouldn't use screws or a holder, go for tape as Fox said they look much cleaner and save you a few quid in the long run. Halfords do an adhesive pad which Is super strong. Comes in various thickness so your plate fits over any screw mountings and is strong enough to fit a plate to a bent surface. My front plate is bent and these pads hold it just fine.

Only problem is 1 pack is only enough for 1 plate so make sure you buy two, I think they are like £3 each. I can't find them on the website but they'll have them instore, just make sure you get the correct thickness for your car!
