If anyone is going down the M1 or M69 and goes past it let me know (R545 NWT). :(

Is there anything I should do until I get to a garage to get a new one made?

Hopefully halfords near work will be able to do one but I can't find out if they do on their website.

I had to stick it back on with some adhesive pads this morning because it was getting loose, might have to see if I can screw it in this time.

:o

Halfords do them, but you will need the V5 with you and some form of ID (ideally drivers licence).

(There are other combinations of documentation and personal ID they will accept before the pedants come on banging about private plates, using utility bills or letter from lease company etc :o)

It's advised to ring your local station. Just in the unlikely case of someone picking it up and sticking it on there car and committing crimezzz.

Yeah, I had both plates taken off the Gti when we lived in Glasgow. Local garage recommended calling the police to let them know. In hindsight, it's quite obvious why but at the time it didn't occur to me.

I had mine stolen about 15 years ago, I told the Police luckily as they were used to buy a full tank of petrol by someone. They dumped the plates so the Police gave them back to me. :D

The annoying thing was that it was a gold Ford Sierra with a dented door which did the drive off, and there was a car matching the exact description belonging to someone in the same block of flats! The Police didn't seem interested though.

Halfords, used to when I worked for them, make number plates by hand out the back. Laying the letters out within a template and then pushing it through a roller. They can come out totally **** with iffy spacing, not being level and air bubbles.

They can come out very well just depends which monkey is picked to do it.

Depends how fussy you are. Obviously you need a new plate but if you can find somewhere that can produce them by machine I'd go there instead.

Call the police, most likely the plates will be stuck on another car and used for a fuel drive of or something. Dont be surprised if you have the old bill knocking at your door sometime soon.

Edit..

Was the plate actually stolen or did it fall off? If it fell of I'd just forget about it and get a new set made up, if stolen however call the police.

Got it all sorted out today. Managed to get a scanned copy of v5 from home printed out at work and took it to halfords. The chap fitted there and then and drilled the holes and screwed it in and its so much more secure now. I did ring the police to report it and was also given a number for the dvla but haven't had time to call them.

It's most likely in pieces somewhere on the motorway. :o

at least it fell off and wasnt nicked !

even if somebody has the plate, the chances of them finding a car to match to clone are very slim as it just wont be worth their bother.

Yeah thats what I thought. I should be able to dismiss it straight away if its caught on camera on a mondeo or something like that. :)
