Need to attach a trailer to a car tomorrow. Don't have a plate (just remembered I need one) so wondered how easy can I get one from Halfords and what do I need? Using a borrowed car, all above board but just need a rear extension plate for a (loaned) trailer. Can I turn up and get one in 30 minutes?

I think in you need to take proof of ownership of the car with you, i think the V5 will do (even though that's not proof of ownership as it says so right on it..)

You need a v5 and your driving license, we do it on the spot, takes about 10 minutes to make up. I think it's £8.99 per plate? Or something like that.

Sod it. I am not convinced the V5 is about, it's a BMW my wife borrowed from her office as it has a tow bar on it and I need to tow. I'm insured on it and it's virtually new but will need to dive out to fetch the V5 I suspect.

Be careful towing trailers brand new on loan bmws from work. Sometimes the towbars fall off because they're new. :D

The trailer hire company made me one up in around 30 seconds in the end, no V5 needed as I'm known to them as is my wife who has put a fair bit of business their way. Race car collected, now sitting in my garage awaiting some hard track use :)
