Anyone here have problems getting the numpad to work on their keyboard in cod4...it's driving me nuts.

I have never used a WASD setup, I hate it, can't get on with it and never will, using the cursor keys and selected buttons nearby has got me through every game i've ever played with ease, now suddenly cod4 will not recognise the bumpad

It recognises the pad enough to let me assign keys in the options, but when it comes to playing through the game, it won't respond unless I press the numbers along the top.

Typical CoD bug (been the same in CoD, CoD:UO, CoD2, and CoD4), the numpad will work for about 3 presses then will do something odd. This is best noticed when typing in the console, try typing in an ip address using the numpad and you'll see what I mean.

Time to learn WASD me thinks ;)

Actually I use the cursor keys and certains keys on the numpad for other functions, guess i'm just not "leet" enough to use WASD setup.

But it never happened to me in any of the other cod games...never happened in any other game period as it goes. Just bugs me cos COD4 is supposed to be this amazing game but can't even play it because of a simple key assignment problem.

To be fair, I used to use cursors with ctrl and 0/ins along with the page up/down. But it was really ******* with my hand, switched to WASD and never ever looked back.

I've tried WASD a few times, mainly because it was "the way to play fsp" but can't get on with it, just annoys the hell out of me and as you said, it messed my hand up, whereas cursor keys, numpad and mouse has never caused me any problems. Each to their own I guess :)

Hmm this guy actually might be on to something. Using the arrow keys and then the numpad for functions may be less confusing.

No idea about your problem though mate.

You use the numpad?

WTF

I use the arrows, up, down, left and right.
RightCtrl for jump, Rightshift for sprint and numpad 0 for prone, numpad 1 for reload. I can just reach the End key with my middle finger for binoculars and I think I use Delete for grenade. This is CoD2 though, not 4.

WASD makes my hand ache. Using the numpad works well for me.

He said cursors mess his hand up.

Yup I know, and I said I had the same problem with WASD, I didn't imply that I had the same problem with cursors, just had the same problem with my hand getting messed up using WASD...phew...it's all in my subtle and poor use of language :p

I used to be a pure cursor keys user, played ravenshield etc that way and was one of the best players. When i did get into cod 4 i started on WASD purely to try it out, once you get the hang of it you will realise you have a lot more accessibility to other keys. Now i rely less on my mouse to have about 10 buttons and rely more on keys around my WASD setup. Its worth learning trust me :)
