SX, unfortunately
I'm trying to get a bit more clued up with servers and server OSs for work, so have obtained a Proliant ML330 G6. I'm trying to install the current version of Hyper-V server on it with an eye to then using that to install and configure various server OSs to learn.

But I'm stuck at the first hurdle. The server currently has the integrated SATA/SAS controller - I have a single drive installed. The installation shows the drive fine, lets me create a primary partition and format it. Then stubbornly refuses to use it. Any ideas? :(

Ultimately I want the Hyper-V to run off an SD card, and will have a P410 raid controller installed but waiting for that to arrive.

Haven't got it to hand as I've had to go back to what I'm *supposed* to be doing, but it just said something like "Windows cannot use this partition" and said refer to installation log - with no clue where that may be!

There's currently no SD card in the slot (only drives are the single hard drive and dvd drive).

I'm basing my hope on using SD eventually to hold the host on this info:

HP provides several high performance Enterprise Flash Media kits for customers who require boot-from-flash for integrated
hypervisors and first tier OS platforms. Three form factors include USB, SD, and MicroSD allowing the flexibility to support virtualized
environments and direct OS boot for Windows2012 Server and Linux across the HP ProLiant portfolio.

Thanks :)

Great thanks, that makes sense :)

So what are the sd/usb slots for inside?

Will try again when I get a chance

Didn't fix it - in that I have no idea what I did different :D

The server has been robbed of a few bits before I got hold of it, so can't do much more until I get some more drives and the raid controller for it. But spending a bit of time learning the CLI side of things. I thought DOS was almost dead, but guess not :)

I've been having fun :(

My P410 arrived with the 512mb BBWC. Installed that no problem, updated the firmware, and popped a couple of RE4 drives in, used the ACU on the service pack disc to build a RAID 1 array.

Which Hyper-v 2012 flat refused to install on :p same error message as before. Considered trying to clone the original onto it, but decided to try installing 2008 and then "upgrading" to 2012. That worked fine

Hopefully not too much leftover from the 2008 install.

Me too! Whilst I don't mind having to have to do a 2008 install and then upgrade, I'd rather not. Yes it was the 2k12 driver...

Probably the same issue I had originally which I still have no idea what was different next time!
