Hi Folks

Im planning a Nurburgring trip next year and wanted to ask people who have been before what else is kinda in the area. Would like some ideas as i want to have around a weeks holiday but want to spend say 3 days at the nurburgring and then the following 4 in otherplaces. Has anyone had a week long trip before stopping off somewhere on the way or going past it and then doing it on the way back ? Will be around 4 or 5 cars and want it to all be kinda car related :)

Look forward to some decent ideas

Sam

Just come back from a Europe trip where we went past the Ring (in a motorhome, so no track action, just some photos of testing cars).

We went to the Belgium GP at Spa, then into Germany for wine and beer in the Mosel Vally, and then back home via the ring. The German GP is at the ring next year so you could go for that, and Spa is only 70 miles away and you practically drive past it to get there, so you could do Belgium instead. Then you have basically the whole of Western Europe to play with. Pleanty to do.

Im not really sure there is much local to the Nurburgring. I've been twice now and without a doubt the time between waking up in the morning and waiting for the track to open has seen some of the most boring afternoons I've ever experienced.

Personally, we got round this by going to the Renault World Series at the Nurburgring (FREE) and then hitting the track the day after the event finished. Otherwise, this year we browsed Aldi for an hour, then Lidle before walking a mile of the track and then off to the Nurburgring Cafe... boring!

Also, are you sure you want to make a 3 day stay of the Nurburgring? After 4 laps I managed to warp all my discs and drink near a tank of fuel. We've always had it as a stop off point to a much longer road trip. Line it up with a MotoGP or F1 race if thats of any interest, or as we're doing next year, find Europes best driving roads and then hit the Ring.

Sorry if I didnt answer the orginal question

Chris

:/

Loads of people here have been for 3-4 day trips as the love cars and love driving them and the Nurburgring is a brilliant place to put a car to test and enjoy yourself. In fact Sam went for 2-3 days earlier this year in his last car.

As for places to go/things to do, turn it into a road trip for the final few days and head round loads of different countries and experience loads of different roads...and alcohol/women. :p

I happily spent a week at the ring without driving on the track all the time.

The local roads can be pretty awesome so theres fun to be had there, you can go karting near the track which is fun, we had a day trip to Cologne to see the sights, sat around cafes eating and drinking. Then usually a bit of ring action on the evening sessions, decent meal in one of the local resteraunts or in Adenau and then some more beers.

Cheers Guys

I think Spa is something i want to see, is there usually a lot going on there or do i need to make sure before i go that an event is in place ? Not sure if i want to do that first or last tho. Nurburgring im happy with doing 4 days. inc the arriving and leaving which is only really 2 full days. For me its not about just the driving but also the watching , meals at the pistenklause.

My mate also warped his discs after 4 laps, the reason for this is very simple and its because the car isnt being warmed up and cooled down properly. If you dont drive it like you think your in the le-mans you will be fine.

Please keep suggesting other places to visit please, Spa for half a day is cool and i think we will stay at the nurburgring for 4 days. That leaves me with 2 days to travel / visit somewhere else .... Could i possibly get the ferry to somewhere else then go onto germany and then only belgium for SPA.

Geography was never my strong point :p

Cheers

You could pop down to Stuttgart and go to the porsche museum perhaps if you want somewhere to go on the way for a night, apparently rotterdam is great for the beer and obviously you can get the ferries there from harwich. Perhaps take in the old F1 circuit at Reims. depends what you want, any city can be great if you make it great. But there is loads of war history the area you've got to drive to, to get to Nurburg.

I am just planning a 2 week euro road trip.

I'd say Austria would be awesome to visit as the country looks beautifull.
maybe a German City? Techno Musik YA!

Amsterdam is only 250 miles from Calais though:cool:

Would love to do Amsterdam and it may be an option, would have to be on the way back tho as otherwise the rest of the holiday i would just feel like crap :p ....

The steak is very good but i've had better :)

If i was you i'd treat the ring trip as a roadtrip, visit the ring then do some roads in france, not that much to do around the ring.

A few evenings need to be spent at the Pistenklause restaurant with much beer and much steak, the steak is the best I've ever had and trust me when I say I'm fussy about steak.... :)

Ive stayed there and eaten in there three times, very good food and at a great price.

Hi Mate

It is very very good but i also have had better, the Goucho Grill does fantastic steaks but they are a little more expensive ;)

Goucho does do a good steak but nothing compared to sparks in NYC, plus a ganster hit once happend outside!

(plus goucho tends to be filled with snobs, which is odd as its not that expensive and it just sells steak!)

Where are the best place to find photos of previous years at the ring ? (of your own cars)

Someone posted a list of sites but i cant find them :(
