Hang on, there are suspicions that the NUS funded their legal defence in a case against the NUS?

It wouldn't surprise me, but no. The NUS opened investigations after continuous calls chivvied them into it. Bradley instructed Carter Ruck to go after anyone covering the story and try to bring libel suits. I did say "defence". I was wrong, I'd become hazy on the details. The investigation is "ongoing" and shows no sign of being anything other than a means to placate people until they forget about it (or graduate). Carter Ruck was hired to go after the papers (which is their specialist area).

Sorry, my bad.

Still if the funding for that has come from the NUS that's pretty damning given the type of organisation they allegedly aspire to be. I just had a read, seems they were using the Cliff Richard ruling as their legal basis, bit disturbing that.

I have identified circa 20k worth of savings for the NUS.....

She also sent a picture of her genetalia (covered partially by an emoji) unsolicited to a group chat when people were discussing their pets and petitioned for non gendered toilets so she's in good company with Jess.

SU isn't part of the NUS, AFAIK even if it was then the salary of sabbatical officers would be paid for by the local union regardless.

SU disaffiliated quite a few years ago, though AFAIK some of the more recent disaffiliations are partly responsible for the NUS's lack of funds for example Newcastle, Surrey, Loughborough, Essex and Hull all disaffiliated in the last 2 years.

Despite your post being incredibly related to the current thread, I think there are some serious practical difficulties to your idea even if you were serious.

Edit: bloody Dowie getting in there before me :p

Good spot guys.... Right you are

Southampton students opt out of NUS

https://www.theguardian.com/education/2002/may/22/highereducation.students

It appears they realised early on that the NUS were no good

"Southampton University students want a national union that truly represents them, without wasting their money on the bureaucracy and the political time-wasting of the NUS," said Mr Edwards.

"For decades, the NUS has refused to reform, deciding instead to remain under the control of political factions and giving real students very little. Only 10% of Southampton University students actually collect their NUS card, clearly showing how little the NUS means to them,"

That bastion of Social Justice, political activism and Youth Wing of the Corbyn Party, the NUS, has run out of money. They're now implementing emergency austerity measures.

This is different to the government's austerity measures, which they have been endlessly critical about, because the NUS's austerity measures are the result of not having any money and being in debt. Whereas the UK government has infinite money and no debt.

The NUS is a pioneer of such measures as banning gay men from being LGBT group leaders for not being oppressed enough, hiring Carter Ruck to protect Trans members who flashed their penis at people on a train and pushing Identity Politics at every single conceivable opportunity.

As per usual with the Left Wing, they ran out of other people's money.

Corbots going under. Good. Next.

Lefties, SJW's, Corbynista's, Mao, Stalin, I get that the point of these threads is to partake in an anti-liberal orgy but can we focus on what actually matters please? Does this mean I won't get my free cheeseburger from McDonalds anymore? Honestly, I'm the only one who has my priorities straight in this place.
They aren't liberals. Just a different kind of authoritarian.

Was the NUS associated with the left back in the mid/late 90s? I can't remember as I didn't know left from right back then. All I remember was I had an NUS card during sixth form which gave me 10% (or 20%) off at McDonald's and reduced entry to nightclubs. My sister was head girl and she laminated the NUS cards :p

I graduated in '95, and they were left, almost full-on communist, back then. The difference was you could actually engage in debate with them over a few pints and they didn't go running to their safe-spaces to report you to the 'hate police' for saying something 'nasty' or opposing their views. Strangely though, in our SU it was mainly the crusty brigade who, despite their politics and penchant for not bathing, were a good bunch to get slaughtered with.

Thank you for the correction. Without your vigilance my totally serious and not tongue in cheek at all post would have made me look quite the fool. Quite the fool indeed.
Eh.. there are some people here would make that post (of yours) and be 100% serious. It's hard to tell these days, when somebody is making a funny or is being genuine.

I read it as a "look at the fascists having a good circle jerk" type post :p Because that's what some genuinely believe. That OcUK is a den of right-wing fascist sympathisers. Personally I think there's a lot of lefties in here also. Probably a good few at both extremes.
