NUS facing bankruptcy.

Its obvious I believe in a humanity where we help each other, so of course I see more easily why they are being that way.

i studied and then worked at one of the largest uni's in the UK for 20 years and i can tell you that the students union cared only about themselves and their narrow student political view - they represented a narrow subset of students who agreed with themselves and no-one else, kind of like most areas of politics really.

Pretty much describes all unions both student and professional.

IMHO these days unions are more corrupt than the employers they were originally setup to protect members from, the worst being Len McKlusky & Unite.

But people wouldn't really say to say the Left is "clever" and the Right is "thick", would they???? I mean that sort of extremist generalisation would be be the mark of a closed mind unable to deal with facts such as "Brexit hasn't even happened yet and, as we're still in the EU, no-one can yet say 'how' Brexit has been unless they're from the future".

The thing is, having lived in a university town myself for over 15 years and gained 2 degrees here - what maybe called 'left' is frankly, usually more factually correct - the NUS/Uni here said brexit would be terrible for the county - and guess what, they were right - several factories are closing now, mostly in towns that voted to leave, and now the locals are up in arms.

We as a whole, are a totally bizarre silly species - people hate people, who to be blunt, are smarter than the average joe - they are more offended and upset by their perception of arrogance than actually loosing their jobs, homes etc

I think now endless families have lost and are loosing their careers in the local factories / industrial / commercial areas - their priorities might change & they will hopefully listen abit more to, frankly, people that know better.

At least feeling insulted doesn't change the fact if you have a job or a roof over your head - being willfully ignorant, evidently, based on whats happened (and they were told would happen) has indeed made many people jobless - and where I live brexit is a complete and total disaster, way way way worse than the 2008 crash.

Ah, maybe not then :D

Sarcasm aside, lumping everyone together into a single set of characteristics is a very poor way of dealing with people. People on both sides of the political/social divide are clever and stupid, able to apply critical thinking or to believe that only they know best, so while I poke fun at Combat Squirrel here I realise that not all "left" people are like him nor share his very worrying opinions on the IQ levels of those on the other side of the political spectrum to him. I realise that people are individuals and treating them as such, rather than generalising, is the best way to ensure you make a fair and balanced opinion of someone.

Can't they claim EU grants and then prostitute themselves out to try and overturn Brexit? or are they already on the gravy train and just really poor with money?

We’re not talking individuals....your of course right on individuals but in general , i.e. enough people to vote a significant amount.

I’m afraid in general of millions of people, on average, were of a lower iq who voted leave, are also the same people who happen to be right politically speaking.

I’ll find the studies I read that prove this.

But also I have to say in my own life all my friends who voted leave, are also what I would say are generally right minded politically ..... coincidence?

And also another fact all but one individual were not educated beyond school ..... again it’s all abit coincidental?

Again generally speaking I’d say the vast majority of my at least degree level educated friends nearly all voted pro Europe.

I’m not just saying this it’s quite clear why I’d draw general opinions based on observation.

Sure not every individual is like that.

But if someone gave me a list of 200 people I know I’d bet you I’d overwhelmingly correctly guess which way they voted on brexit, their opinion on the nus and their political leanings, as well as their general educational level, because a lot more often that not, most things go hand in hand with the other.

Well see my post above your response for a general 'POV' on the NUS. To address your points.

The NUS represents students ? So what your seeing as political agenda could also be explained as - representing the views of students - frankly I do not know ANY one in ANY university to vote FOR brexit.

So if they are waving that flag - then ALL students want them to - there has never been a more united youth in living memory.

And I'm actually glad they are banning news papers (if this is true) - good - because its vile and obvious propaganda - 'news' papers, especially the usual right **** rags, are, mind numbingly hilariously ridiculous these days - the same thing happened pre war in Germany - just bonkers 'reporting' - perhaps they are being 'ott' progressive, but the nation would benefit if laws came in that banned pure lies and nationalistic campaigning from news sources - if they were forced to print verifiable truth, the 'news' would be very different.

You have to remember todays 16-25 year olds will inherent a right mess of a planet from the likes of people like May, her pals, and their age range - and if they can start working now to make the world a better place - then all power to them - sure you don't agree apparently with their politics - but factually, their ethos benefits the many, it is obviously the antidote to the torys.

If the elder generation are hell bent on ruining peoples lives en-mass - then be not surprised when they fight back for what they believe in.

Its obvious I believe in a humanity where we help each other, so of course I see more easily why they are being that way.

I'm just going to leave your entire post above as a counter-argument to itself.

Everything ends up being about Brexit.

To the original topic of the NUS running out of other people's money: Amusing, but not entirely surprising given it's run by 19 year olds with rose tinted glasses on.

Isnt rose tinted specs meant to mean they are optimistic? However they are obviously not optimistic as they think everything is bad.

Never mind. Brexit will sort them out once they have to start growing their own food and penicillin if they get ill. Then they will know the importance of real things and sovereignty

Because apparently the UK was in some kind of "Medieval Dark Ages" before 1993 when the current EU came into being and thats what people think we'll go back too? The rubbish some people spout amazes me!

Anyway, back to the NUS - poor management priorities matched to poor fiscal abilities meant that the NUS going under was always a very likely outcome once they stopped representing the Majority of Students, who don't really care all that much about identity politics and the latest "woke" thing on twitter, and instead just wanted to study, get their degree's and leave with as much speed as possible. Once you start to depend on a minority for your money you'll eventually run out of that money.

It doesn't necessarily mean optimistic. I meant more wishful or ignorant in their world view, being arrogant about the validity of their opinion above others (like Combat Squirrel)

They were definitely being optimistic when viewing NUS financial reports though.... A £3M hole doesn't come from nowhere.
