Hello folks,

My setup:
Ryzen 9 5900X
Gainward Phoenix RTX 3080 Ti
display-1: 4K@160Hz (MSI MPG 274U)
display-2: 2k@165Hz (Dell S2721DGF)

Issue:
I would like to use the 4K display as primary and the 2K one as secondary (portrait).
PC is not able POST with just he 4K display connected.
I can see that "something" is happening because the display is turning on, but then I get a "no signal" warning and it goes back to standby.
I've managed to get it to POST by connecting the 2K display to a specific DP port (1st one after HDMI port) and ONLY that port. 2K display is initialized, PC boots, and only after the OS is loaded, do i get a signal for the 4K display.
Now, this will not be so terrible (except for the fact that if I want to use the BIOS, I have to turn my head 90 degrees), but during normal operation 4K display is randomly getting black/no signal for like 2-3 seconds and then gets an image again.
And to make matters worse, if the PC goes into stand by or suspend (or I manually turn off the displays), then i won't get a signal no matter what I try. Only solution is to hit the reset button on the PC and boot again into OS.

What I've tried so far:
Multiple DP cables, uncluding the one that shipped with the monitor, in various combination of DP ports.
I've updated the firmware on the display to latest available.
I've updated the firmware on GPU via NVIDIA Graphics Firmware Update Tool.
I've installed the latest drives available from Nvidia.

What I'm thinking to try next:
Order 2 DP 1.4 cables and try with those.
Flash a new VBIOS on my GPU, if I can find one. Gainward haven't published anything on their support page for my specific model card.

I've read arund the internet that this seems to be a common issue with nvidia's 30/40/50 series when using high resolution or high refresh rate displays over DP ports.

If any of you has any suggestion on what I might try, pleas DO tell, because this is driving me nuts.

Thanks!

Was it this update you used ?

NVIDIA GPU Firmware Update Tool for DisplayID

NVIDIA GPU Firmware Update Tool for DisplayID

The DisplayID specification provides enhanced display capabilities. To ensure compatibility with monitors using DisplayID, an update to the NVIDIA GPU firmware may be required.

Without the update, systems that are connected to a DisplayPort monitor using DisplayID could experience blank screens on boot until the OS loads. This update should only be applied if blank screens are occurring on boot.

Click here to download the NVIDIA GPU Firmware Update Tool for DisplayID.

The NVIDIA GPU Firmware Update Tool will detect whether the firmware update is needed, and if needed, will give the user the option to update it.

If you are currently experiencing a blank screen, please try one of the following workarounds in order to run the tool:
-Boot using DVI or HDMI
-Boot using a different monitor
-Change boot mode from UEFI to Legacy
-Boot using an alternate graphics source (secondary or integrated graphics card)

Once you have the tool downloaded, please run the tool and follow the on-screen instructions. Ensure all apps are closed before running the tool and make sure no OS updates are pending in the background.

It was the "NVIDIA GPU Firmware Update Tool for DisplayID", but version 1.0 instead of 1.1 (which you linked here).
I just downloaded and tried version 1.1 right now and it says that it's already updated? Which is kinda stupid, because 1.1 should apply over 1.0 (given that it's a newer version/code base?)

Is there any way I can reflash the BIOS on my GPU and maybe start again fresh?

Could try re-flashing the bios from TechPowerup. Make sure you get the right one and then use NVFlash to do the actual flash.

(i take no responsibility if it goes wrong)

I might be talkig rubbish here, but I don't think the nvidia tools flash the card's entire VBIOS, just the part that relates. If you flash the VBIOS from another source, you're probably more likely to have bigger problems, because you have to match the card exactly (model, clocks, memory straps, cooler).
