Nvidia 3060 release date and time

Oops :p Made that same error further down too.

Still, 0.075% of global CO2 is a drop in the ocean compared to transport, steel making, concrete production. Even the world's data centres, which last I read used something like 4% of global electricity.
Haha - we've all done it!

Agree 1% is obviously relatively small compared to some other contributors but it's so egregious because it's literally to no purpose (other than making money). It's like being paid to leave the lights on all day in an empty building - just a waste of resources. If it's true that mining consumes an equivalent amount to a quarter of all data centres, that's absolutely insane to me!

Personally, I don't see it getting better in the short to mid term either.

How reliable any prediction is is unknown, but there are estimates that it could reach 1/2 the entire energy consumption of the EU in the next 1-3 years. Assuming the BTC value holds/reaches moon.

You also forgot to mention over half of bitcoin mining is done with cheap renewable energy form china hydro and Iceland geothermal production. :)

There's some stuff about that in the Cambridge study on BTC power consumption (where the Argentina start comes from). They link to another study, which looked at claims that ~70% of mining is powered by renewables.

That study found that 70% of mining rigs were powered by renewables. But that only ~40% of global hashing power was powered by renewables. That was mid-2019. CBA to look up the study and link to it. But it isn't hard to find.

40% would mean the carbon intensity would be below the global average though (which means BTC mining contributes to CO2 emissions at a rate lower than 44.2Mt/year).

If BTC goes "to the moon", I'll be able to afford to make my mining (and gaming, and everything else) carbon neutral (maybe even negative) :p

But would you, or would you just buy 5 Lambos instead? :p

I haven't driven an ICE car in six years (and I haven't got that sort of stake in BTC).

I was on the EV thing before it was fashionable, back when people would laugh and joke about it being a toy car. And I was paying for a renewable electricity tariff when they were still 25-30% more expensive than standard tariffs. All while earning maybe 15% over minimum wage. So yup, I would.

Great News!! For any Miners out there the 3060 RTX is Running consistently at 30.20 hashrates octopus with 58 consump (100W ) on nicehash which is pretty good for the price. so will pay for it's self in only a months time. Think I'm gonna see how many I can buy looks like its just ETH which is affected which i don't mine anyway.

Yeah, it's just Eth. It's still profitable for mining Conflux. Returns just aren't quite as good (pretty sure it'll be more like 100 days payback at RRP).

Assuming not a troll attempt, this kind of post does make a mockery of those saying, "Demand is nothing to do with mining!"

Like, no, it's obviously mining. Duh.

And we always knew limiting Eth only would be as much use as a fart in a hurricane. It's not like there aren't a billion other coins to mine.

Certainly not a troll attempt - you can check for yourself on the nicehash calculator - its showing over 3 dollars profit per day after taking into account electric costs. Users are confirming this as well. Those are real world figures and pretty impressive. Certainly worth setting up a 6 or 10 card rig assuming I can buy the numbers i need at the right price. Resale of this card will be pretty good as well as ETH only has a short shelf life with EIP 1559 coming in July and ETH 2.0 coming next year so no one will care by then about the ETH mining issue with this card. Perfect.

I'm glad I'm not in this buying game anymore. I got suspended for two days for mentioning a city that had 3060s in stock. A city. The ludicrous thing is that this was during a time when OcUK hadn't released their stock. Don't worry guys, you'll sell out soon enough.

All this because they have a poor back end.
