So after someone was asking questions about 3D and requirements, I thought I would run several games in 3D and give my overall thoughts on them and if they are worth it. I will add other games later on but for now, these will have to suffice. I was also testing the VRAM requirements but every game was using ~2400MB, so I assumed that caching is going on, as I know from running SLI 680's that this wasn't needed.
Anyways, here is the bench results
Starting from the top, we have Tomb Raider and wow, just wow! This game looked stunning and the 3D is eye poppingly good. I ran it with TressFX and all the trimmings except for AA. Lara seriously popped out of the screen and certain parts make you smile (when squeezing through gaps in a cave). For marks out of 10, I give this a 10. I was intending on doing a quick 10-20 minute bench on each game but ended up doing over an hour on this.
Next we have Sniper Elite V2. Again we have great 3D but sadly when looking through the scope, everything is messed up but there is an option to use the 3D Vision sight but I didn't notice this option, so will have to have another play on this and report back. Other than that, this was good 3D and nice and deep. Only giving this a 3 out of 10, as I couldn't see the option to change to the Nvidia sight.
Dirt Showdown was next and again, great 3D. Nothing at fault at all in this but unlike Dirt 3, there was no option to sit behind the steering wheel and this was a 3D maker for me in its predecessor. Still, the 3D was very good and no bones about the depth. Everything looked very good and sharp. I had all details on max and just o AA. I will give this a 7 out of 10, simply because of the lack of seat view option.
Saints Row IV now and meh! Shadows around the enemy made it hard to kill them and objects looked completely out of place. Disappointing, as this has some good potential to be a good 3D game. 3 out of 10 for this and a low score, which could improve massively if 3D gets fixed.
Metro Last Light and again we have the wow factor. With all settings maxed and PhysX running, this looked awesome. No bones to pick with the 3D and all the effects of the smoke worked very nicely. A 10 out of 10 for me in this game. I loved how all the sparks felt like they were hitting me and the guns looked very good.
Sleeping Dogs followed and a flawless run. Nothing special here for me but nothing I can fault either. It felt like watching a 3D movie that had been converted from a 2D film if that makes sense. Everything worked but nothing was amazing. I will give this a 7 out of 10 though, just because it was faultless.
Crysis 3 was next and we again find a game that works very well in 3D. The depth of objects was spot on and running through the long grass made it stand out and come out the screen. One bone to pick with this game and that is a slight shadow around the gun. Not very noticeable but it is there and for that, I will give this a 9 out of 10. Faultless otherwise and great to play in 3D.
BF4 was next and unlike BF3, this is broken at the moment. The sight is well off and you are looking at 2 enemys but shooting either of them ended up missing. I played the second mission for around 5 minutes before I could take no more. Great potential when the 3D sights are fixed and objects are rendered at the correct depth but till then, avoid. I will give this 3 out of 10 for the potential to impress if fixed.
Lastly, we have Batman Arkham Origins and this is stunning. Just like Tomb Raider, this is one of my favourites. I also intended to give this a 10-20 minute run but ended up playing it for well over an hour. The snow is constantly coming at you when you are flying and the cape is extremely well done. Not a single fault could be picked out and objects looked like they would if you was not gaming and just doing every day life. A credit to 3D gaming, as this game looks good enough in 2D.
This raps up my 3D testing for today but I would like to say that the frames are very playable and 3D isn't as demanding as made out to be. You gain a fair bit back by not running AA. Not sure why AA doesn't work but it is supposed to distort the effect of 3D or something along those lines. If you have considered 3D but not been sure if it is worth it, stick it on your Chrimbo list. You can always send it back if it isn't for you but I would say try it before writing it off. Maybe I am biased but I lost all interest in gaming and 3D got me back into it.
As for my top 5 3D games, it would be:
