I got my 3d vision up and running last night.
The kit - Alienware 23" 120hz monitor, nvidia 3d vision glasses, gtx 580.
After a relatively easy setup, i got stuck into some games. I havent played much for long, just long enough to get a feel for the glasses and to see where things benefit, or lose out on account of the glasses.
I have most of the games on nvidia's list of supported games, granted, there's not many that are officially branded, so i gave these ones a go first.
Just Cause 2 - The look of this was excellent, really added something to the game, the effect when the parachute opens is superb. Im looking forward to replaying through this with 3d enabled.
Metro 2033 - Wow, simply wow. I have never before had such an immersive experience, where im at in the game, this was the game that really blew me away, the only downside i had some bad motion sickness playing this, hopefully with a few tweaks ill be able to get rid of this (i quite often get motion sickness playing these types of games anyway).
Civ V - This is interesting, i found it quite dark, the 3d effect was good, but i didnt think the kind of game really lent itself to 3d.
Battlefield BC2 - Only played the intro, but like Metro 2033, really immersive for third person games, i can see this being the area where the glasses will be used most, going on the boats to the landing site again had me wobbling with motion sickness.
I then moved on to some other games that were rated in a variety of different classes. I should say, when you load a game, you get a box in the corner which tells you what rating the game has, and what to turn off to get the best experience.
Grid - This told me to turn a few options off, but i couldnt find the options to do this. Its rated excellent, but something wasnt right with it, and it was unplayable to me.
Assasins Creed 2 - Similar to Just Cause 2, was an excellent effect walking around the crowd.
Super Meat Boy - As this is my newest game, i thought id give it a try, the 3d effect was excellent and i felt added something to it, the platforms standing out.
That's everything ive tried so far, first person shooters look the best, but for me, unless i can get used to it and conquer the motion sickness, i doubt ill be able to play long with it, i was feeling a bit crook last night myself, which probably didnt help. I wont be using it with every game just for the sake of it, over the weekend ill try a variety of other games (im downloading batman again as its rated as supported), and will give Starcraft 2 and maybe lord of the rings a go to see how these work.
