Does running the 3D setup take more out of the card than regular display or it all done fairly easily?

Curious as i'll need replacement screens soon and might drop the extra few quid on a 120mhz panel (and have a GTX 480 inc).
 
It adds a fair amount of extra processing workload - depending on game and how well it supports it, it usually pretty much drops your framerate by half - you can however reduce or turn off AA to make up for some of it - personally I still need 2x AA but some people find it ok with AA off entirely.

Personally I don't think 3D Vision is worth spending money on - approx. 9 out of 10 people will use it for about 2 weeks then never/rarely use it again once initial novelty wears off.

120Hz panels are brilliant for FPS gaming or other fast paced games, but if your more into slower paced games i.e. MMOs or spend a lot of time doing desktop stuff then a nice high res IPS panel would be better.
 
That sounds like a "stick with what you got" :p (have a nice high res IPS panel). I do play quite a lot of everything but I don't notice much blur etc on my current unless VERY tired.
 
I'll be honest, I'm in the 'barely used 3D' camp (although it is fantastic for some racing games), but I have been utterly spoilt by 120Hz. I find it a lot smoother, even for desktop use. When running it at 60Hz, it feels so... unrefined.

Saying that, I'd stick with what you already have. The colour reproduction is better (one thing I want), and if 60Hz doesn't bother you, there's little point. I'd see if you can get a go with a 3D setup, and see what you think. It is a novelty, but I do rather like Avatar in 3D blu ray.

As for performance hit, figures show about a 40% drop in frame rates, however, even on my lowly GTX 460, Metro 2033 on medium, 3D or not, I got no slowdown. That game is fantastic in 3D.

Got a 120hz monitor, and yeah it's smoother but not worlds smoother like everyone else is saying. Haven't used a 60hz since and some say the transition back to 60hz is one they wouldn't want to experience on a daily basis. IMO if you have 60fps vsync gaming with nice colours, that's virtually the best experience on pc.

3D is nice but in it's infancy. The effect is nice, definitely notice the 3d, but haven't found myself playing a game from start to finish in 3d.
