NVIDIA 4000 Series

Picked up a 4070 Ti gaming X trio for £679 brand new - 20% off + a further £50 at an online retailer.. i game at 4K and haven’t found any issues with it. Clocks to 2970mhz for games and +1725mhz on the VRAM for 587gb/s bandwidth - the games I play happily a locked 60fps at 4k maxed settings using anywhere from 120-300 watts depending on what games and how taxing it is.. for example Doom and days gone uses 150 watts and the fans remain 30% whilst the GPU sits at mid 50s temp wise. Much prefer over my 3090
Enjoy it man

Cheers mate, now I just need to sell my 3090 after selling my brothers which was a pain ha!. The 3090 is a great card but Dam 450-500w power draw was painful to see!! Quake 2 RTX 4k maxed out everything I could 90% full resolution holds 60fps gears of war 5 4k maxed out including god rays and all that jazz 60fps… cracking card as I say just unfortunate it’s been tarnished as a bad card due to horrible launch price

In all fairness 47% fan speed when my 4070 Ti is maxed out is silent and doesn’t break 68 degrees offering 3090 Ti performance so I don’t mind these ott coolers :)

I dont think its the case that they run cool due to the coolers. The architecture / process just seems very efficient.

Which is why I wonder why they need such big coolers.

I think it’s a combo of all 3.

The reason they like putting the big coolers on though is to make the cards especially 70/80 tier seem like they are more powerful than they actually are to try and justify the higher price tags this gen.

So the AIB partners can sell you for a £100.00 (new shiny thing) more and make more money out the consumer? The cooler on my RTX 3070 was OTT as well.

I think the FE editions from Nvidia have cooling that is probably more conservative and reflects what is really required for these GPU's. Mostly.

I'm thinking about picking up an Asus ROG Strix 4080 OC, would a 850W Platinum be enough for this card and a 5950X? I'm also going to need the 12VHPWR cable, would the cablemod version be okay?

I seem to recall, with no evidence as I don't know where, didn't nvidia tell the AIBs that the 4000series would have higher TDPs and specced out massive coolers then dropped it at the last minute?

Plus all the other answers

Why did you swap out a 3090 for a 4070ti- that’s a sidegrade with less vram if I’m not mistaken? (Please correct me if I’m wrong).

Given the price premium of the strix surely it’s better to just go for an MSRP 4090?

Agreed. It (Nvidia 4090 FE) can be picked up for £1519 elsewhere. Cooling and looks is superior to anything except a Suprim.

I mean you're paying a premium purely for the looks of the card, there isn't anymore performance to be had and the cooling might be better but not enough to warrant the cost of a strix card. The card still looks like it was designed for a 12 year old.

ASUS TUF & Strix are mandatory for many, as they have two HDMI 2.1 ports, without which you can't connect two OLED TV's.

The strix, Supreme etc are also much quieter than the founders edition. Founders edition is a loud card when at 100% load (4k, RT) and the fan's tend to wobble and make more noise over time.

Ah fair enough didn't know as i rarely use HDMI. I PL and undervolted mine so its whisper quiet so the point where its barely audible which has stopped me from watercooling this FE card. If it was loud i defo would have slapped a waterblock on it.

If it's whisper quiet when at 100% load (4k, RT) at 350-400W then you're very lucky or deaf :D
