NVIDIA 4000 Series

Hi I have a 3070 and looking to get a 4070 or do u think I should jump up to the 4080 ? , I do not game at 4k I use 1440p...giving me a headache wat to pick lol

I'd get the 4080 over the 4070, and if you can afford a 4080, you can afford a 4090, so get that.

It's the only 4 series card worth buying (at a cost) this time around, IMO.

Get a 4080 or a 4090 if you've already got last gen.

I'd only recommend my 4070 to people that haven't had a gpu in a couple or more generations (like me going from a rx 580 8gb)

I'd say that is now somewhat outdated now that the price of the 4080 has softened.
Looking at in stock cards on OC, the 4090 is ~ 30% faster than the 4080 (Tech Power Up) for ~40% more cash.

No point buying a 4090 for an extra £400- £500 as while it will be relevant for longer, you won't be noticeably benefiting right now at 1440p and likely Nvidia will hardware lock new features to 5xxx+ so better to save the cash and flip the 4080 for a 5080 in 12-18m.

@OP why not consider a 7900XT as a mid point, similar or better RT performance than the 4070, you won't be path tracing at 1440p anyhow.
Raster much better and splits the difference on price.

For a decent boost go for the 4080. Could also stick a cheeky ~800 quid offer in for one of the 4080s or 7900XTXs on b grade if you don't mind the limited warranty :p

Definitely isn't better RT than a 4070

That's path tracing data, as I said in my post.....
Good luck with that on a 4070 at 1440p, it ~30FPS at 1080p anyway so irrelevant apart from perhaps taking a photo at 20FPS

4070 is approx. = 7900XT in RT Ultra 1440p.

Can't find a direct comparison, however 4070 is ~ 30% slower than 4070Ti @ RT Ultra Cyberpunk while 7900XT is 25% slower....... same ball park with slight advantage to the 7900XT.

My bad posted the wrong image, still sucks though even an XTX compared. FWIW my 4070 does 74 - 83 in the most intense areas with 1440p max settings dlss3.5/FG on with super low latency mode and RT set to pyscho, low 90's in the deserts/driving.

The OP is on 1440p so lets look at that chart.
Neither card all that playable, you'll be using upscaling on both.

My point was that unless you are totally obsessed with RT, the the 7900XT is good enough to turn it on and have a similar experience to the 4070 while easily beating the 4070 into the ground in almost anything that isn't RT.

4070Ti is OK performance wise, should have more memory at the price point
4080 expensive.

Major stomping and this includes RT titles

I stated in that corrected post I was using 1440p maxed out via dlss3.5/frame gen with RT on psycho setting :)

Yeah a 7900xt is decent, just not at RT for the extra cost, I'm quite content though with the fps I get with and without dlls/frame gen for a £520 card tbh with the feature set it has.

However 55fps for my card with rt on at 1080p is nearly a respectable SP 60fps... So for even a XTX to not beat that let alone a XT at that much lower of a res and a "powerful card(s)" it is still embarassing for what was a £930 and £1319 on release XT/XTX... No denying that one!
