It has done for several months, if not longer. All my gameplay videos are uploaded as AV1 encodes.
I don't use constant bitrate, I use CQ 26 for AV1 which results in a smaller file size than the original recording with no difference in image quality. On average that might look something like my original GFE clip being H264 at 45Mbps average to AV1 at 35Mbps average (rough example). I'm sure an even tighter CQ would result similar results with even smaller file size but I just found 26 worked fine and at this stage now that I have 900Mb upload speeds as of next week I don't really care to bother with playing around with any other valuesI'll have to experiment. What's the general rule of thumb ? If my ultrawide video is at 30,000kbps what should AV1 be ? 10K ?
For some contexts, I use the free version of resolve and using Av1, for 2560x1440p 60 FPS uploads, I use a CBR of 20K ( however I think the setting in resolve is variable regardless )I'll have to experiment. MW2Which game was it out of curiosity ?
AV1 was 89fps and HEVC was 50fps. I noticed AV1 doesn't slow down with the slowest preset so it might not be working correctly and could be why HEVC was better. When I lowered the bitrate to 10 Mb/s it was hard to choose between AV1 and HEVC so it's not all bad, and both were clearly better than NVEnc h264.
Changing the AV1 encoder preset to slowest actually does something now so that might be why HEVC was better than AV1 in the Nightly build, I'll have to test them again.Handbrake 1.7 is now out and supports the AV1 encoders for both AMD and Nvidia. I tested it against the previous Nightly build and the encode speed is actually faster:
1.7 release on left, nightly on right.
In order on the queue list:
1: AV1 (NVEnc)
2: H265 (NVEnc)
3: H264 (NVEnc)
Wow thanks for letting us know, you’re a star! On Sunday I tried buying a 4080 for £1100 with PayPal pay by 3 payments just because it’s 0%apr. Even though I have excellent credit rating it refused me.Finally managed to get a 4090 founders. Back in stock today on the Nvidia site for anyone interested.
I was close to going for a strix after having had a Suprim X 4090 previously, but after weighing it up I really don’t see what you get for nearly £600 more.
I was power limiting my last card to 80% so overclocking isn’t a priority and these cards have minimal gains to be had.
Just need to sell all my consoles and Apple TV etc on the members market as the Pc will do it all

Oh well their loss! 4090 ordered . So happy!
Ive wanted the 4090 for ages but the absolutely mental prices of it have put me off. I kept seeing the prices going up and up so now that the founders edition is back I jumped as soon as I saw your post.Enjoy.
It was a good thing in the long run that you couldn’t go ahead with the 4080 purchase, as you’ve ended up with a much better card.
The 4090 is an absolute gaming beast.

£1579 is still a lot seeing as it was £1519 a few months ago but oh well. It’s my Christmas treat to myself lol
Yeah I remember buying the 980ti for £600ish and thinking wow so much money. Then the 1080ti I’m sure that cost me £900. I then didn’t upgrade until the 3080 and that was £970 I think.Yeah I know what you mean. It is a lot of money on a single part.
I still remember the days of buying top end graphics cards well under a grand. 980 Ti and the 1080 Ti were the last cost effective ones.
As bad as it sounds it does get easier to stomach when you’ve done it a couple of times lol. I paid over 2 grand for a 3090 during the mining boom and I did feel a bit sick.
But as soon as you’ve got it all set up you forget about it. The 4090 will last some while so you’ll definitely get your moneys worth.
Also I’ve noticed resale is always good on founders as a lot of people want them.
My biggest regret was selling my PC on these forums. I spent well over 5 grand and sold it for less than half that.
I won’t be rushing to do that this time round lol…. And I’ve justified it by buying 14th gen cpu and the new version of the apex.
Only card worth buying out of the 4000 series IMO sadly I don't even remotely need the performance of it or I'd get one.
Only gpu worth buying out of all this gen tbh.
Also....best value! The 4090 is an absolute gaming beast.
