Isn't £240 a year for use of a 4080 4k/120fps a good deal? To buy one now costs £1000. Even over 3 years the rental works out at £720, whereas after 3 years you could probably sell a 4080 on ebay/cex for maybe £450, but you're only having to spend £20 per month. So £720 - £550 (£1000-£450)= £170 difference without the upfront outlay.

To put it in other words it costs around £170 more to rent the 4080 over 3 years than it costs to buy it outright after reselling it, equivalent to 5.6% interest per year (current average credit card rates are 22%).

I've said a few times on these forums that Nvidia are pricing their cards so high they are going to introduce something like PCP on cars to lock consumers into the company - but it seems they are going down the mobile phone sales model.

I bet if they did 4090 for £50 a month over 3 years (total £1800) most forum users would bite their hands off.

This is going to hit the 7900 XTX series hard. How many users would choose a 4080 Super over a 7900 XTX if they are the same price etc. I like both AMD and Nvidia cards but if I had a choice - it be hard but would be swayed to Nvidia for various reasons.

4070 was $100 cheaper vs 3080 msrp.

Not exactly a bargain for much the same performance after two years though.

I thought AMD did pretty much the same thing with the 6800 XT and the 7800 XT though one gets a lot of praise speaking of that...

Where are you people getting your sales data from as I've checked the Steam hardware stats to get an idea and I cant find the 7800 XT on it.

I'm wondering if the 50 series might be a bit like phone gens, skip for the next, on S22 Ultra but will skip S23 for S24 as need a performance improvement worth it. It's all well and good once card been faster, but for example 10fps average or even 20fps wouldn't be worth it unless without all the tools or as some call it "cheats" we have the game is tanking horrendously, so 40fps on a 4090 vs 60fps on a 5090

You need to look in percentages. As you said, going from 40 to locked 60fps is quite a big jump.

What are 3080 10GB owners doing then? Eyeing up the 4080S or 70ti super? I can sell my 3080 for about 350-380 so if any 70ti deals for £700, pretty tempted but feel like be better stumping up for the 4080s now

4080S for sure if you want 4k.

The 4090 was 21% more expensive than the 3090 at launch (14% when the price was lowered shortly after), yet was 60-70% faster.

4090 looked good if you don' look in perspective. 3090 was a turd, extremely badly priced.

Yeah, I keep hearing this. As always, people make claims without backing it up. Or they mention mindfactory sale numbers thinking that must mean global sales are a massive success. I have only seen MILD mention some US retailers have stated that they have sold very well, but take that with a pinch of salt.

But the 3090 was only a "turd" relative to the 3080 and then only if you could get a 3080 anywhere near MSRP, which was almost impossible.

Compare the 3090 to the 2080 Ti - 50% more performance and over double the VRAM for only a couple of hundred quid more, seems fairly reasonable to me.

Sticking with what I have till the 5000 series, these supers are still priced far to high for what they offer and could end up be replaced in as little as 9 months.

The 4080 super is only 3% faster than the original 4080 according to Nvidia and that card has been available for 1k for a while now so in the grand scheme nothing has really changed.

The 4070ti super is a better deal now because it’s on the 103 but almost £800 in 2024 is still a lot for a card that only looks to be around 30% faster than a 3080 from 2020.

I stuck it out despite being temped when Nvidia released the Turing supers, OCUK had a Xmas 2019 offer on the KFA 2070 super for £435 which offered 35% more performance than my 1070ti at the time. Waited 9 months and ended up getting 3080 for £650 which was 136% faster than the 1070ti.

Usually every generation has 1 or 2 really stand out cards - but I genuinely cannot think of a single card in the 2000 series that was actually worth buying.

I like the FE design though.

Ampere was better priced because Turning sales fell off a cliff after NV doubled the price for the 80Ti.

It's nowhere close to the 4080 experience though, it's Streaming and all the downfalls that brings from considerably reduced IQ and stuttering and that's only if you have really fast internet to begin with.
