NVIDIA 4000 Series

So only the fastest card (4090) is classed as premium? Even when you weigh up the price increase against extra performance over the 4080S? I don’t care what die they use tbh, it’s the 2nd fastest card they make in that line up, seems to be built to a really high standard and well engineered (the cooler especially), comes beautifully packaged as a whole, that equals premium in my eyes :)
If Nvidia only made a 3090 last gen on the 102 and then packaged the 3070ti in a fancy box and charged 1k for it would it have been classed as premium?

At the end of the day Nvidia can call it what they like but the specs don't lie and what your paying 1k for and calling it premium would have been no more than a 70 class in every other generation.

But we aren't now in every other generation are we. The 4080 is 50% faster then the 3080, and is on newer technology, so it costs more. As I've said previously I think people are just going to have to accept this is how it is now, with AI coming into play it's only going to get more expensive.

What are you going to do if they release the 5080 and it's 50% faster then the 4080 but it's >£1k? Wait for the next generation after that?

I would have rather the card came wrapped in newspaper but cost £700.

Fancy packaging and an over engineered cooler are all well and good but your paying for these things and they’re not making the card faster.

Yeah. Stronger power connections and less melting plastic would be preferred over a box that goes in the garage.

No this generation is unique, the first where price increases outstripped performance.

Also have to add the 20 series into that statement. As the 2080ti and other 20 series cards were priced high and some didn't even give a meaningful performance increase over the 10 series. But agree the 40 series is the worst of the bunch so far.

Is that not due to the pandemic & cost of living though, especially in the UK, everything has gone through the roof price wise and it hasn't seemed to drop back down either.
Maybe that would be true if the cost increases applied to all the cards but the 4090 is only seeing a 7% increase and the 4060 / 4060ti seeing no increases at all? also other PC parts some of which are made at the same foundry's haven't seen cost increases of this scale.

For those on 3080 and 6800xt:

Think selling a 3080 for £350 and bagging a 4080s for £600 doesn't look too bad of an upgrade for bang per buck tbh.

i'm going to wait for the next round of cards and see what ~750 will get me. Not confident though and can see myself picking up a Bgrade/secondhand 4080/7900xtx at that time for cheap.

Yup I can't see next gen being much better tbh, well in the sense you will probably get 4090 level perf in a 5070 but it will be £700 (which of course will look like a bargain but not really....)

I'm so surprised not.... When they sent 500 of them worldwide and most ended up at review sites... Also this is just to create FOMO so don't fall for it.. They will have warehouses full of them somewhere to drip feed them. Nvidia really has no shame... Now the AIBs can sell for the inflated prices the original 4080 sold for.. Or more...
