Yeah I'd be worried as well, I once returned a pair of headphones to Amazon, someone else stole the product in transit, and they wouldn't refund me back the cost of the item. Only time I've ever had an issue with them, but it can happen. As long as your pre return chat is documented you should be good.

No, it's not. The retailer can ask but you're not required to, if they want it reporting to the police it's their job because it was stolen from them, not the buyer.
