NVIDIA 4000 Series

Nvidia started doing this during the Turing era.
Absolutely, yes. People complained a lot, so Nvidia tried a bit with 3k series to test the water with lower prices but then mining and pandemic happened and people shown them they are willing to pay much more to get new toys. That solidified it, now there's no coming back anytime soon. The more you buy the more your save and that's it. :)

Well that only means I will keep my graphics cards longer and longer, until I really need an upgrade. If anything I might end up spending less over time!

There are lots of other interesting hobbies to spend my money on,which part of my PC budget is now going on.

Wasn't this what cheesed Jensen off in the first place? This is why he infamously said "now my pascal friends.. it is safe for you to upgrade". So if he wants people to upgrade at each cadence of release he should try and make them more affordable.

Definitely true but we aren't even main target of Nvidia anymore - enterprise is and they won't wait and it's not even that expensive to them. We are just by the way, some cash on the side now, that's it. I have moved most of my budget to other hobbies too. :)

On the other hand, when I hear devs talking about current young generations that have grown up with a tablet and phone in hand, they don't even know how to use mouse and keyboard or even controller - only touch screens when mobile gaming. It seems Nvidia is about to lose whole generation of gamers who won't even look at their GPUs as they won't have a computer aside maybe MacBook or most likely an iPad.

Exactly.

Not really helped if even a crap mainstream dGPU will soon be £500.
Mobile games make the most revenue of all gaming segments.

I hear Nvidia is trying to get into bed with Mediatek and launch their own ARM based gaming SOC.

I'm on the fence on this - a lot of the younger ones at work are adopting PCs of late, a couple of lads have been quite excited about their 7800X3D/nVidia 4000 series purchases, I think we are in kind of funny times on this where the future isn't really set as to what will win out. (But backward approaches or silly pricing will more likely curtail the desktop gaming PC future - it is a time to encourage uptake not create an unattractive ecosystem).

How does the performance of the Zotac compare with the Asus 4080 super. Is this an overclocked version?
In terms of gaming performance, any model you buy is going to be within 1-2% of any other with the way Nvidia's boost clocks work these days. The main "benefit" of the fancy models is more RGB bling, along with potentially slightly lower temperatures and quieter fans (though that doesn't always hold true).

Thanks what’s the difference between the standard Zotac 4080 super and the Zotac 4080 super AMP

Younger ones... at work? I am talking about current children in their x years, maybe beginning of xx years. When they hear about controller, they already call it old people stuff, KB and mouse is just ancient - all they want is touch screens. :) It's a fast growing generation for which we are dinosaurs.

We've got a bunch of 16-18 year olds taken on for the seasonal period this year and a few who were kept on from the same last year, a year ago owning a PC wasn't even on the radar of most of those in that kind of age range, there is definitely a broad shift going on, same with my nephews and friend's kids in their x and early xx years - partly influenced by streamers, etc. who make up a scarily large part of their entertainment and have a scarily large influence these days on the younger generations and seem increasingly a substitute for thinking for themselves.

Nothing except a 60MHz (2.3%) increase on the guaranteed boost clock, but in reality they'll both boost above that anyway. They both use the same cooler, so you're not even getting any cooling benefits for your money. Paying more for the AMP is basically just donating £60 to Zotac. Give it to your son instead.

Sadly pretty much the course for all the 4080s and 4080 Supers, marginal performance difference depending on cooling and thermal/power limits. Most of them just boost up against the power limits and that is it.

It would seem in laptop space NVIDIA is planning already to hike pricing on low-end GPUs, like 5050 being more expensive than 4050. Not a good sign, but expected, as this is likely a sign of things to come with higher models too.
