NVIDIA 4000 Series

Is there no way for them to increase the number of RT cores per SM? seems like RT is really held back by how few RT cores they have.

As per the above slides I just posted, not without seriously increasing the die size because the RT cores are quite large - looks like 1 RT core is 3 or 4 times larger than 1 tensor core.

Also, as per above the RT cores have been improved anyway - the core count itself doesn't matter if you don't take into account the IPC of those cores.
The 3090ti has 84 RT cores and each RT core has a performance output of 0.92 Teraflops for a total Ray Tracing performance of 78 Teraflops. The 76 RT cores on the 4080 has a performance output of 1.49 teraflop per RT core, for total Ray Tracing performance of 113 Teraflops.

Is it me or am I reading that as they have reduced the time the transient spikes last with the 4000 series?

Yes. This is naughty and should be illegal. Its misleading to the consumer.
They attempted to answer that very question here...(reddit)
Q: What makes the GeForce RTX 4080 16 GB and 12 GB graphics cards keep the same “4080” name if they have completely different amounts of CUDA cores and are different chips?

The GeForce RTX 4080 16GB and 12GB naming is similar to the naming of two versions of RTX 3080 that we had last generation, and others before that. There is an RTX 4080 configuration with a 16GB frame buffer, and a different configuration with a 12GB frame buffer. One product name, two configurations.
The 4080 12GB is an incredible GPU, with performance exceeding our previous generation flagship, the RTX 3090 Ti and 3x the performance of RTX 3080 Ti with support for DLSS 3, so we believe it’s a great 80-class GPU. We know many gamers may want a premium option so the RTX 4080 16GB comes with more memory and even more performance. The two versions will be clearly identified on packaging, product details, and retail so gamers and creators can easily choose the best GPU for themselves.
FYI don't shoot the messenger. :)

I highligted these 3 games as these are the games running without DLSS 3.0 turned on so you can see the native performance vs the 3090TI

TLDR: 4070....I mean the 4080 12GB is below the 3090TI with the 4080 16GB and 4090 pulling ahead

It looks like it, they claim they've reduced the spike size and time via some new digital power management components on the pcb - but this only applies to the founders card, who knows what AIB cards will do.

Either way, the Gamers Nexus review will show us what's going on, they always go in depth into power management

Nvidia and their fake soap opera effect FPS scam will be found out soon enough.

It’s mad how their entire marketing position for these cards is based so fundamentally around it. Sure in titles where it’s applicable there is a big increase - but I can’t wait to see the actual reviews. Because I think it’s going to tell quite a different story. The 12GB looks to be around 3090Ti performance, but with its restricted bandwidth I imagine this could tail off at 4k.

Is that at Overclockers? Or another site ? The more i think about the more I'm swayed towards the FE

Good price, same price as the FE - seeing the same in EU countries that have listed cards - AIB models are not priced hundreds over FE MSRP and some of the cheaper AIB models are actually priced under Nvidias MSRP

This likely means that with rtx4000, Nvidia is selling the dies to the AIBs at significantly under the MSRP price where as last generation the sold them at almost MSRP which made it literally impossible for AIB to make cheap cards

I wonder how long the 3000 series FE cards will be available for now. You can still buy a 3090Ti for example.

someone should tldr his videos never seen a guy beat around the push and be so long winded,,,,

15minute video that could be 60seconds.

how can people watch people like him?
I rarely watch him but am happy to see him join the team Anti - Nvidia.
I am not Pro Radeon either though, at the moment, stuck in the middle.

If the recent leaked timespy extreme scores are to be believed then the 4070/4080-12gb scores 11000 which is the same as an overclocked 3090 or a stock 3090ti , the 4080 16gb scores 15000 and 4090 scores 20000 which seems to go in line with what we know so far ... basically if you own a 3090 then the only plausible upgrade is a 4080 16gb or 4090 , only other benefit would be dlss 3.0 on the newer cards .

Yeah...that slide is direct from Nvidia btw :D

A 3090Ti at the current FE price might not be such a bad deal. Sure it lacks 3.0 but I bet plenty of 12GB 4080’s will be around the same price, and in some cases have worse performance and half the vram. Less power consumption admittedly.
