NVIDIA 4000 Series

Finally the penny dropped to what really has happened while people were crying 4070 = 12GB 4080 and reality is it's a 4060ti.

It's going to be an odd generation because when the real 4080 is released it has a huge gap to fill, there is enough flap for a min of two cards between the 4080 16gb and 4090 - so in 6 to 12 months we'll have a 4080 12gb, 4080 16gb, 4080ti and 4080 Super

Seems to me that there are far too many entitled people around these days, who feel Nvidia owe them a £650 4080 16GB.

Price is determined by the market. Nvidia have millions invested in market research - they know the 4000 series will sell out at these prices, they know the vast majority won't even consider an AMD GPU due to Nvidia's mindshare and the strong public sentiment that Radeon = cheap, nasty, BSOD fest, subpar drivers (regardless of it being true or not).

Nvidia have over 80% discrete GPU market share. Make no mistake here, people will whine and threaten to buy AMD, though secretly they'll be coveting a 4080/4090, even at prices they complain about. Many will load up credit cards, at high interest rates, just to satisfy their itch.

It's also up to Nvidia to name whatever spec card they want. Historical specifications may point the 4080 to being a '4070' - though clearly Nvidia know that the competition from AMD won't be a factor, so are free to nerf specifications as much as they like.

The main problem with this post is that sadly it’s largely true!

I’m hoping the lacklustre performance of these new cards, combined with higher pricing and less money around and less mining will mean better availability but I won’t hold my breath!

Nvidia don't want the 4080/90 cards to sell out. They have been making those cards for months now and won't dump them into the market. They wouldn't sell at their MSRPs at any meaningful volume. Nvidia got caught out and wrote down $1.3bn. This isnt some genius move.

They want to sell out ampere first, which they have already said to investors will sell through to 2023q1.

Entitled? Not really, more like disappointed (in my case). So price is determined by 'the market' and Nvidia is the vast majority market provider in this duopoly segment, I think some small measure of disappointment is understandable.

I have a low post count but always lurk, but this has to be deleted for blatant baiting lmfao
