NVIDIA 4000 Series

Wonder what the UK stock level for the FE actually was.
Sold out in seconds and none on eBay as far as I can see.
Hopefully FE EK blocks come in soon and nobody preordered them without having an order for a card secured!

At least it was more than the stock alocated for the Irish market.
Customers from Ireland are expected to order from the same supplyer as UK only that supplier does not ship to Ireland.

Look at it this way: I paid £1800 for my 4090. If I sell it for £700 in 2 years' time then it's cost me £1100 over 24 months. That's less than £50 a month, and a little over £10 a week.
Ooof £50 a month is quite a lot when you put it that way. Maybe im just more careful with money, but to me anyway its a lot.

A dozen or two maybe, they seemed to vanish instantly so probably less than 40 i'd imagine.

I keep thinking that Nvidia are trying to take a larger share of the market every generation.
They give the FE every advantage and put the squeeze on the AIBs. But then when it comes to they don't put many up for sale. Weird.

I have no idea how I did it in the past, but I was able to play Doom very well with just 7-10FPS on average... I mean, these days I couldn't even aim at things with such FPS. :D
Don't forget,,in the doom days we had the mighty crt which handled motion especially at low fps much better. Ok 7-10 is definitely on the v low side, but it will have been much more playable than on a modern sample and hold.

I mean it was sold out within what, 20 seconds? And none on eBay so unlikely to be bots.

Probably less than 100 FE units for the UK which is insane really.

Just think Nvidia had potentially hundreds / thousands of people willing to hand over, well thousands of pounds of their money and yet they have deliberately restricted stock so they can’t do this. I don’t really get it myself.

i did get one

i had a choice from the 2400 strix to the 1700 tuf, but chose the amp extreme

80% gone by 4pm, by 5pm not one major retailer had a 4090 instock

so a lot of people missed out, i didnt coz i was on point, like the other 800 ppl who managed to bag one

Mate I can find stock now if you are willing to pay £2k+, you clearly don't know enough hardware retailers. I even see a workstation company still has their stock of 4090s that have not sold out yet as the general public doesn't know them and people in the computer field do. Tomorrow at work we have 4090s coming in for staff that wanted them from them for their home pc updates as most work from home these days and didn't want the 3090s at the time or couldn't afford them.

The tuf 4090 was available at one major retailer till after 5pm £1699 for sure because I was wondering to grab one or not then decided we have some coming in to work tomorrow that I can have a play with as I really don't need one as I need more VRAM for my work than just 24GB and why I have 3090s in NVLINK to pool VRAM and CUDA cores. I'm actually keeping an eye on 3090s and 3090ti's that we can buy in pairs to update some of the workstations at work that didn't get updated last time and get the NVLINK bridges at the same time as they can be a pain to find sometimes for 4 slot boards and then boards with 3 slot spacing too, so need cards that fit and in Noah fashion buy them two by two and making sure to have spares too in case we need to rma.

The 4090 is a fail for us at work this time sadly, so hoping next gen 5090s bring back the NVLINK and have more VRAM or we will end up back to Quadros (A series now) or titans if they ever come back, the 3090s were great for us and saved us a lot of money for our work as we don't need titan or Quadro drivers but we always had to pay for that before as we needed VRAM and as I thought would happen NVIDIA didn't make that mistake again adding NVLINK to the 90s and didn't even increase the VRAM this time.

I was refreshing the page regularly from 2pm and never saw it come up once. Must have been small or the bots would have swallowed them up and crapped them out on e-bay.

A few have sold, there is some still sitting there from hours a go at 2k. If this was mining time they would have gone in seconds after listing.
Id tend to agree. I saw a good few cards for at least 10 mins at launch and another sit available on another website for a good 10 mins at around 1930. 10 mins for the 3xxx was an eternity for months.

Yeah sounds as if the FE stock was similar to other cards, few hundred at the most?
Insane if Nvidia have been making them for months.
Imagine if Apple or Samsung etc launched a new phone and only a small percentage of those that want it can buy it.

It is a lot. But £50 / month puts the cost in perspective. Many people pay that or more for their mobile phone. Or their internet connection.

It's crazy how we're conditioned to accept costs as normality.

For example, I find it crazy how literal millionaires and other extremely wealth individuals buy iPhoned but similarly, people who are generally living via a modest income ALSO find themselves obligated and conditioned to buy such an expensive, luxury device; assuming or believing subconsciously its a mandatory purchase.

Sadly its all relative and I wouldn't say its even in keeping with how much someone earns. Is just people's perspectives I guess.

I've seen recently Fantatec gear on FB being sold. Very expensive high end gear - IMO absolutely luxury - and when looking at the houses or rooms this ultra-high tier gear is in, I'm absolutely shocked.

So easy to get tricked into spending more money than we can afford this day n age.
