NVIDIA 4000 Series

You state you have a 3090ti, you have no good reason to buy a 4090, lets get real. Also people had more than enough time on many retailers sites to get one today, they were in stock till 6pm at most places if you knew where to look. Also OCUK sites crashed and was over priced compared to other retailers with a standard £100 bump to prices and more in some cases.

If you really wanted one you would have got one, just the FE cards vanished in under 30 secs. Also many of the AIB cards were the same price as the FE card too even the ASUS TUFs were £1699. So all people saying they planned for hours to get one are talking rubbish. I was on like 5 main retailers sites and they were easy to get for a good few hours after even the TUF for £1699.
And that's why I I'll buy off somewhere else to dear.

Someone got DLSS 3 working ona 2070 and is testing it out on a 3080 - He's doubled his 2070 framerate supposedly - Says he has "connections" and it was a matter of tricking the game/driver in matching the VRAM reqs so it matches up with what's expected for the frame gen toggle to actually do something: https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/y1gx4s/comment/irxa6s8/?context=3
People keep posting this headline but 1) It's not been independently confirmed by anyone, and was posted by a Reddit user and 2) Even if true, the Reddit user himself reports horrible instability and frame lag, so while he may have doubled his frames the delivery of said frames is dire.

Anyhoo, read the story and make up your own mind.

Okay, so here was my buying experience from yesterday. I really would like OCUK to listen to this and actually improve things for the next big launch. I prefer to shop here because I rate the company and the service they provide. The intel on stock levels is great and I enjoy this forum in the leadup. But it's not all unicorns and rainbows.

I had several tabs open yesterday, with retailers in order of preference and a single-minded focus on getting a Suprim X 4090. OCUK was tab one, other large specialist retailers followed according to my previous experiences with them.

1:59 and some seconds: Suprim X buy button appears on OCUK. I hit add to basket, whole site freezes and a whole precious minute passes, so I refresh the page and hit it again, knowing that probably half the stock has already disappeared in that minute and that stock is fast disappearing from alternative retailers. OCUK is running down the clock with a website that just can't cope with a few thousand visitors. Awful.

2:02 I manage to get it added to basket and go to checkout. Get to the proceed to payment button and site freezes again. This is where my loyalty to OCUK runs out. Not least because the card I want is £50 more expensive here than LITERALLY EVERY OTHER RETAILER.

2:05 I switch to my second-choice retailer. It's still showing more than 20 in stock. No issues with site freeze, it's £50 cheaper than OCUK. Click, in basket, pay, done, all within 30 seconds. Order confirmed within 1 minute, dispatch email received later that evening.

So, a website that breaks down at the crucial moment. A £50 premium over all other retailers. And finally, and importantly, a strong chance that if you miss the boat thanks to problems with the website, OCUK will take your money anyway — which honestly, I think is just completely unacceptable. No one should ever be 'oversold'. That's deliberate, and it's potentially a massive inconvenience to the customer that could delay them getting one of these cards from any source for weeks, potentially.

OCUK has had plenty of time to fix this since the last big NVIDIA launch. To ensure user capacity in its online systems, even for just these special days. And it hasn't done that, it is also overcharging, and it is taking orders when it doesn't have stock. For these reasons, I am glad I purchased from elsewhere. Hurts to say it because I've been a customer here for more years than I can count, but there it is. It needs to do better.

I will be getting my card today, but OCUK almost blew it for me by wasting my time when every second counted.

Demystified: This is how NVIDIA’s 4-way adapter for the 12VHPWR port of the GeForce RTX 4090 really works!

Wonder if the 12 pin cable that comes with the new power supplies, would make a difference?
Or are all 12pin cables made the same as NVs one?

SLI...Ohh wait no NVLINK this time...
Guessing has 3 systems or planning to scalp a couple...? who knows why one person would need three, two I could understand if they could be NVLINKED even without NVLINK 2 could be put to use in a single system for certain tasks but 3 naaah not with the size of these cards.

Must be a miner. Its always the miners!

I have the Corsair one in hand and it’s not the same (as the nvidia adapter), the 2 sideband pins go all the way back to the PSU ground which tells the GPU bios it can draw down 600 watts.
Not need for any IC as you won’t be switching between a spiderweb of adapters with the potential to not connect all of them.

Patiently awaiting my DPD "out of delivery" email - very happy to get a card on day one and not have to F5 and fuss about like I did for the 3000 series!

Good luck to everyone receiving a delivery today, really hope we don't see any DOA cards, as we know stock will not be readily available to replace. That's unless OCUK have kept spare cards in reserve for returns etc. I know the FE supplier did this for the 3000 series, as my first 3090FE died a spectacular death after an hour of gaming, I had a replacement the next day (even while showing out of stock etc).

If you have a 4090.
Use GPU-Z and go to the advanced tab and it will tell you what the board can draw.

Yes they haven't sold out and I think some retailers deliberately pulled their stock and made it look like they sold out too, hoping they can price gouge them later and pretend short supply, there were loads on many retailers and all of a sudden they got pulled and then stuck back on with new prices and then pulled again, some silly games going on for sure and the Mexican standoff comments were very true, most were waiting to see what other retailers were charging and set their prices from there. Nothing more than price gouging at its best.

Don't fall for the lack of supply with 4090s their is many still available from honest retailers not playing these games if you look around and don't fall for the gouged prices. Even many gpu aibs stores still have them in stock. The greed from 30 series is still strong with some retailers.

And the proof coming out of the retailers gouging ....

Guys and girls, don't buy gouged goods from retailers doing this, it is past a joke now and same applies to scalpers buying to resell. There is no shortages of 4090s or gpus in general right now and most of it is down to retailers and distributors controlling the stock, when we had the mining craze that was another thing with covid lockdowns etc, now there is no such things, they are artificially recreating these conditions to price gouge now.

If you think you have been price gouged recently you are protected under the Consumer Contracts Regulations, you have 14 days from when the order was made to be cancelled or returned for a full refund.

Worth a read of this :-

Don't let retailers take us for a ride now threw these tough times for many. There is no need for this behaviour now after what has happened for the last 2 years.

Can you dumb this down? I saw a video, might have been Gamers NExus and they OC the card and it was drawing 666.6w. Do you think they got sent a binned one on purpose?

Also, if it is locked to 450w, I really don't need to worry about getting a 1200W PSU do I.

To dumb it down, some of the best performing overclocks in reviews have been got with low wattage limited cards. Just because one card needs 666W to get its best overclock doesnt mean another card only needs 475W

For example have a look here, The strix OC has the second lowest max overclock despite having a 600W bios and lots of cards with a lower wattage bios score higher

OCuk taking **** again ¯\(ツ)/¯ . Had Gigabyte card in basket since yday, it was at £1699 if remember good, this morning over £2k for preorder...
This is the thing. I've noticed this about OCUK in the last couple of years. It has a habit of charging what it thinks it can get away with and has been consistently more expensive than elsewhere on GPUs for a long time now.

It's a true 'head-up-ass' approach because while it may cream off a little more profit on GPUs in the short term, it ****es off customers to the point we won't be coming here in the intervening years for other stuff for our PCs. There is a huge hidden cost in customer loyalty when engaging in obvious price-gouging. And for me personally, unless there is a radical U-turn on this policy, I will never be coming back to OC. It's absolutely appalling behaviour.

Well my first ever purchase from this site and despite the 'Your order has been placed successfully' page, complete with order ID and 'Thank you for your purchase!' I still await any confirmation email from OC on my purchase after 18hrs! ..Let alone it's been dispatched!

Amazon sent a 'Your payment is being processed' email and my bank has deducted £1900 quid from my account as 'Pending'..SO...I still do not know if have secured a 4090 or not. At the very least OC could let customers know what is actually happening!,.... get some extra staff in at this anticipated time etc...I Tried ringing them but just kept getting a disconnected line...So am assuming they are either up to their eyeballs...or I may be out of luck...I've just read the Amazon pay gateway service information, regarding the 'Your payment is being processed' info to see what that is all about..And it states:

'You haven’t been charged yet. Your payment is being processed.'
'''The merchant hasn’t captured the funds yet. After Amazon Pay has authorized the payment, the merchant can charge the amount. Some card issuers or banks might freeze the transaction amount after authorization, which can appear in your account similar to a charge.

Note: If it wasn’t possible to complete the charge, the amount will be automatically released after a couple of days. The timeframe varies between card issuers or banks.'''

So basically OC can decide if I get a card or not if they oversold or their system malfunctioned at some point....1Hr AND 30Mins of frantic, adrenaline fueled madness!..it could all be for nothing. No way I will ever be doing this again, its seriously a messed up and crazy way to buy a product! Remind me NEVER to become a Stockbroker buying and selling shares lol!

As for eBay scalpers already active!..BLAME Nvidia and their retailers for NOT having enough stock as promised!...... if there was plenty of cards to go around as promised over and over as Nvidia proudly stated!..... then nobody would need to buy from a scalper!

I have a feeling Nvidia or their retailers/online suppliers etc may be reducing stock severely and deliberately, to induce scalping themselves at some later date..ie put their prices high up after seeing the demand, then offer their next batch at hugely increased prices! **** even said from the start they had limited stock!!! WTF...Nvidia promised this wouldn't happen. This is what happens when someone has a Monopoly on the market! I won't be bothering with scalpers..EVER!..or pay more than yesterdays asking price for a 4090! Hopefully i will get a confirmation email today from OC...or a pitiful excuse one saying they messed up. Either way this is madness! A great forum by the way! My first time here.
