NVIDIA 4000 Series

From what I saw on videocardz last week, a 4070 will not be as powerful as a 3080, so if you have a 3070 there's little reason to upgrade unless you need more vram

All these rumours have very little evidence behind them - if any. I'm content to wait and see. I have a 3090 so am in no hurry.
This. Until the cards get here and get reviews, prices, stock, its all a bit moot. We're falling into NVidias hands even talking about, free hype train for them. Let's go outside and stroke a cat instead.

This is exactly right. Most of the "rumors" are carefully placed plants that fit a marketing plan. We've seen this all before...

Claims of outlandish performance improvements e.g. 2x
Off the charts power requirements
"Good supply at launch"
Optimistic launch dates e.g. July-Aug

As we draw nearer to the actual launch later this year, we'll get more down to earth info with a potential surprise or two. My guess...

-30-50% improvement comparing tier for tier
-Moderately increased powered reqs, but nothing like what's being reported
-Better overclocking headroom due to new node
-Moderate improvement in RT capabilities e.g. 20-30%
Significantly improved DLSS capabilities (coupled with game support) that will allow lower-tiered cards to fake/replicate higher IQ amd resolution

Temper your expectations.

That sounds more realistic. I'd like to know what volume they've got and what they intend to sell them for. The rest is just detail.

Are the latest rumours suggesting an October release date for 4090? Have there been any leaks on MSRP for it?
Release dates are all over the place, pricing is typically announced no more than a week or two before launch. Basically 'leaks' are opinion-based when it comes to these factors but remember whatever happens MLID will say 'I told you so' and 'that's what I was saying months ago'... etc etc

Remember if the rumours are accurate they are staggering from 4090 > 4080 > 4070. That means if your targeting the value of the bunch 4070 its the end of the year (December) rather than September when the hype/announcement 4090 date is shared. People getting excited for the 4070 still have a long way to wait till that is really available to buy.

Pricing is decided by top management a week or two prior to an announcement- because of this there is never any accurate leaks on price, there wasn't any last gen and there won't be any this time either

Yeah, because why would we ever talk about GPU rumours in the GPU section of an Overclockers forum a few months before they are released? I mean it's not like it happens every generation, right?:D

The line will be "good supply at launch" up until September, then heckfire and brimpebbles at launch. Although the pressure from miners has reduced, demand is still being supported by pent up buyers and speculation.

On pricing, expect a notable bump across the board with msrp/rrp, but street prices are anyone's guess (but certainly higher than nV says at launch)

We will very likely have the same shizzleshow as the last launch where there will be some supply for the first month or two then scalpers will hoover up stock to sell on Ebay etc and prices will rise across the board for months.

Having learnt my lesson last time, I am going to buy the fastest card on release and then wait for the inevitable drought to sell my RTX3090.

That's exactly what will happen again, the 2080ti owners that sold their cards for £500 learned a valuable lesson then, a few weeks later they were selling for more than MSRP or at the MSRP depending on the model. It's all the fear mongering that goes on causing people to panic sell, even CEX has gone down that route today with 3090FE's with 2 year warranty for £900. They just want to reduce their stock once they get to the magic numbers of 5 in stock they go right back up with them too. If you check low stock cards they are higher than msrp in most cases there. They just have too much stock and trying to catch the panic sellers too at the cheap buy prices they have now too. They are basically manipulating the second hand market.

It's basically a buyers marker right now as before it was a sellers market, so a good time to catch a bargain while they are about.
