I've been keeping my eyes peeled for a possibly 4090 purchase, now I'm thinking sit tight for the time being!

If you don't need the power right now, I'd advise waiting for the 5 series.

I have a 3080 Ti and everything runs great at 3440x1440 100Hz.

Even Cyberpunk 2077, ray tracing and all, with everything at Psycho, won't drop below 60fps with DLSS on.

I'm torn now. I was content to avoid playing the f5 game but buy one if I happened to find one of the models I wanted in stock. However, the burning-connector issue has me thinking I may just wait until I have more info on how widespread this issue is and if this is a defect or design issue.

I know what distressed electronics smell like so I'm not worried about a major catastrophe if something hapens while I'm gaming,

The biggest issue is productivity tasks. I don't do a lot of these tasks but there are times when I want to put the card to work and walk away to do something else. I don't think I could do that with this connector issue and there's no way I would set my PC to work overnight while I sleep.

This type of doubt should not be part of a $1600+ purchase.

Yeah I'm on an original 3080 running 3440x1440 at 120Hz and everything runs fine. Would be nice to be able to crank up all the settings in some games and pin it to 120fps all the time but there's no rush so I'm going to sit tight to wait for availability to improve and prices to drop and also see what happens with this power connector issue.

I wouldn't be too firm to bash the F5 key on Tuesdays at 2PM.

When I was trying to get a 3060TI FE for my boys PC at the beginning of the year, the Partalert app was dinging at 11am in the morning and then the next drop a few weeks later at 7pm. Much the same when I was poised to help my mate get a card too, pretty sure his was about 12:30/1pm.

Considering I bought the 3080ti for £1050 a year ago and recently sold it for £800 when I got the 4090. £250 loss after 12 months isn't bad at £20 a month. Price is what you pay value is what you get. Msfs in vr with the 4090 working so well now it was a nice bump from the 2080ti to the 3080ti but a leap with the 4090.

In comparison to the £649 MSRP and the performance uplift it's still crap value.

Much as I can't stand him generally, I think Jay has hit the nail on the head in this video:

Seems bending is pulling the connections out slightly on the 'outside' of the bend radius, resulting in a smaller contact area and thus more heat.

My Cablemods cable turned up today :D will still need an adapter to get it perfectly straight but this will have to do for now as with the side panel on it starts to compress the cable a little bit but no worse than the Nvidia one and that hasn't melted in 2 weeks of use  Its so much nicer having a single cable to deal with and get a nice clean run to the psu in the back where it terminates to 3 x 8 pin ( 600w if needed ) .
