NVIDIA 4000 Series

Got my Ek waterbclock on my 4090FE last night and I am disappointed in EK.

Quality of the waterblock is shocking, no where near the levels they used to be.

The block doesnt cover the whole board and as such there are two LR22 phases right next to the power connector which are uncooled.

Not convinced that the thermal pads they send with the block make a good contact all over. I put it all together and stripped it down and there is very little pressure on the pads.

Same with the gpu chip. Nvidia has a very strong spring which clamps their block in good contact with the gpu, the ek waterblock just uses 4 small screws. There dint seem to be much pressure and there is a warning not to overtighten as you could crack the chip (thats the problem you get when not using a big spring.

And lastly, i didnt get much time to do much testing last night but bearing in mind its on its own watercooling circuit with a 560mm rad and 280 rad, the gpu still gets to 60C in gaming.

And thats not even doing any overclocking. But something weird going on power wise I think, I never go above 48% power and never draws more than 280w but it was boosting to between 2850 and just over 3000 last night.

I wish I had waited for waterblock reviews as some of the other blocks available look much better and covers the whole circuit board.

Something sounds wrong there - does the GPU core TIM pattern look like it's making good contact? Almost sounds like some of the thermal pads are too thick or something

MSI Suprim are in stock, had 200 land, not expecting those to last long to be honest. 2610MHz boost VS 2640MHz boost of the X version, so no real difference, be quick!

So how has a 4090 Suprim X that was sold on day one for £1749.99 to my work mate from another well known retailer turned into a worse model of the same card for £2189.99 ? Even Nvidia's site shows they were priced at some retailers for £1795.68 for the Suprim X version and still does.

I'm gonna be quick, quickly running the other way..... :(

Real difference worse model for £440 more...

AND £490.99 more than the Nvidia 4090 FE...

Sorry Gibbo it's a bad joke now, £440 more for a worse version of the card than day one for the X version... Something is very wrong here now.

I was excited to see you said they were in stock, but now I would rather go flush my head down the toilet than pay that much for a gaming card that has been neutered compared to the 3090/ti without NVLINK this time, this is a gaming card now not a pro card that can justify these insane prices, even the FE version is very over priced for what it is compared to the 3090/ti versions for pro use. Now even AMD has given us 24GB 7900XTX for $999 and it's a gaming card with some potential creator uses for people that need 24GB VRAM.

Strix is in stock at another retailer for £2300 although not much change in the price since release .

On release you could find them in stock for £1950, so again £350 more than release and that was the only one I saw in stock at £1950 and other places were not.

Also prices here from OCUK were (check image below), before they came into stock and price changed as we went threw the day and even prices below were not the cheapest available at the time, depending on the AIB model and retailer:-

High street scalping is the world we live in today. But if anyone asks it's all down to the pound, ok.
yea I saw where I bought my Suprim X from locally upped the price by £399 since launch day!

I thin supporting your local or preferred shop is a dumb move if you can save even a tenner online... they obviously don;t care about loyal customers

I'm out of the rat race now, just going to wait for Nvidia to slash the prices which will happen sooner rather than later with the pricing set for 4090s currently, this will be worse than the 3090ti price slashing at this rate.

I'm not going to be played for a fool with no shortages, lockdowns or some other reason. The world is working as planned apart from our country leaders destroying the value of our £, which it was destroyed before the release of these cards and now recovered a little and instead of prices coming down they are going up...

Sorry noooooo... Madness now.

Best one is the inno3d ichill waterblocked one where they slapped an extra £500 on before it was even in stock!

Coming soon for 4080 16GB ... just change the € to £....

And then watch the 4090s keep creeping up in price to make it look like the 4080s are bargains.
Prices are madness for an 80 series card.

We’ve gone from £649 for an 80 to £1269 in 1 generation. MSRP of £1269 for the FE model only, at this rate we’ll have 4080’s priced higher than most 4090 cards.

I don't like being blunt about people/products. But as you asked me to spell it out, my working theory is, it's NOT the sodding cables.
AIB cards doing something different with the power draw in the GPU.
If a single Founders card burns a cable. I will eat my underwear.

Quoted for future evidence. :D In this scenario are you allowed condiments or do you have to eat them plain?
