NVIDIA 4000 Series

My previous partner used to game with me sometimes on her laptop at like 22fps.

I bought her a budget gaming pc after about 2 years, but it was mainly so I could game when I was staying at hers :p

I always felt like I should have been dating her sister instead, she had a gaming laptop but was less visually pleasing.

she was mental though like vegan and wouldn't play games where you had to kill people, she played skyrim as like some pacifist explorer then stopped when a quest requited her to kill people

That’s hilarious hahaha,

So the new 4080 price cut for UK sales what are we looking at, £900 or so maybe? It needs to be £800 max.

NVIDIA's plan is to increase the price of the 4090 to make the 4080 seem better value.

Seriously I don't know where the future is. I have re-adjusted my expectations now and completely given up the idea of two yearly updates. I have no idea now when I will "upgrade" again.

That's my angle too, In the past I upgraded GPU every 2-4 years depending on what card I had and what advances came about. I would be happy with a 4080 as an upgrade over a 3080 ti, less heat, less noise, less power draw with the same framecap etc, so a decent win all whilst being faster in games.

But... Not for over £900 lol.

I want to be in a position where I can sell my 3080 ti FE, and then just add a few hundred to get a 4080. If that's not possible then I just won't get a new GPU. The AMD cards look great, but with radio silence on RT performance, that takes any AMD card upgrade off my radar.

Same. I was all set to upgrade my 2080ti for the 40 series until the prices were announced. Suddenly decided the 2080ti wasn't a bad card after all :D. I'll just turn settings down slightly and wait for either a price drop or another 2 years when the 40 series hit the second hand market at a good price. I refuse to encourage Nvidias greed any further.

I'd like to be able to do the same with my 2080, but I want to upgrade from 1440P to either ultra wide or 4K. So it means turning down settings a lot more than I would otherwise have to!

While i think the price of the 4080 is a joke for you to upgrade it would cost you £350-£400 to upgrade from your 3080 Ti as the current going rate for the 3080ti FE seems to be £750-£800 2nd hand , not ideal but not the end of the world either as the performance upgrade is there just whether you think that jump in performance is worth an extra £400. Possible that the 4080 may drop in price more but then i assume the price of used 3080Ti 2nd hand will drop in price also leaving you with the same amount to lay out in the end .

Still means a new sale to Nvidia so it depends if we want this price trend to continue.

Since my 3070 cost me £470 and I get 100fps in Game X I'm waiting for the day £470 gets me 130fps in Game X on a future card. That's the theory at least. Gaming monitors also have price creep. Everything has price creep, Apple's business model.

Woke up this morning to 30 pings for FE cards, thought to myself its the 4080 again just sitting there... Well how wrong was i LOL. They're all 4090 pings! 4090 FE's turn to just sit there in stock and unwanted .

4000 series is pretty much done for at this stage.

Price on new and used cards is out of whack imo , people are quite happy to buy used 3080 for £550 -£600 and 3080Ti for £750- £800 ... while the price of used cards is so high its not helping new prices come down to much . Both prices need to drop imo but at the end of the day still leaves you with the same amount to pay out when you do upgrade so say a 4080 was £800 a 3080 should cost no more than £300-£350 now but that's not whats happening .
