NVIDIA 4000 Series

I think mine boost a little higher at stock tbh than some I've seen. You are also using water cooling too so that probably plays a part in allowing more OC potential than most will see. Those games are not as harsh as Dying Light 2 so probably explains why you can get a little more from it.

I power limit with this card tbh, but for all YT videos and benchmarks its balls to the wall. :D
Yeah what ever magic sause is in that Galax bios you are using is certainly helping your card out , all good though and no complaints from me i love it :D

Watercooling is proving to be a double edge sword this gen , not without its issues and getting the memory stable

Unfortunately i don't have DL2 but take your word for it , not every game will gets decent gains from OC can be very hit and miss but i like to see what can be extracted out of each.

I actually run this stock most of the time as it is only one or 2 games when its not capped at the fps , I have been playing the OG FF7 again ,i know terrible use for a 4090 but a good game is a good game regardless of graphics and was shocked to see the 4090 using just 3.4w , don't think it could get any more efficient than that

Yeah card is a beast no doubt about it. The 660W BIOS definitely helped me eek a little more out on air cooling. It's diminishing returns past 500W though tbh, but helps with the 3DMark runs.

I have experienced issues with the cold memory too. If the room is cold and I'm at 100% fan speed, memory temp can drop to 20c or so and it can cause issues with stability until it reaches 25-30c+. Very odd.

The 7900 XTX will be challenging my gamerock in MW2 too soon, and the gamerock is a little concerned after seeing those HUB benchmarks.

Yeah have seen others on Overclockers.net saying the memory has issues on theirs when cold also , an annoying feature for sure .... 3090 were way to hot now we have the direct opposite issue with the 4090 not getting hot enough

That bios has worked wonders fr the AIB 4090 though , if i still had the Zotac no doubt it would be running it as well :D

I for one am looking forward to the benchmarks for the 7900XTX on MW2 , the numbers posted by HUB are very very impressive although somewhat of an outlier result and will be interesting to see what it does at full fat 4K Ultra rather than Basic setting , no doubt you will be all over it ... your Gamerock need not fear ;)

Can't you run it on the FE? Not something I had considered tbh. Maybe that means my SOTTR score is safe from you and your watercooled FE, for now... ;)

The main thing is we beat that degenerate (RSR) at 4K tbh mate. :p

Unfortunately not , with the FE cards they have a unique bios which can't be flashed to an AIB and vice versa so i have to work with what i got  Your score has not gone unnoticed but not much i can do about it at the second as memory never getting hot is hampering my score so you are safe for now ;)

Yeah he seems to like the 1080p, 1440p stuff where he can flex with the 13900k , not seen him play with the big boys at 4K yet though :p;)

That sucks, but I'm sure you'll squeeze another 1 FPS eventually. Btw, that extra 1FPS took so much effort to get, for some reason it almost seems stuck at 142 regardless.

He likes to belittle the GameRock OC, so I know it hurts when it bests his binned 4090 TUF OC on the scoreboards. :D

Yeah tell me about it , i have run it numerous time but never quite reach the threshold to pass that 143, am very close though going by your frames rendered... i just need a few more MHZ on the memory

You are doing awesome with your Gamerock , keep it up i love it and keeps me on my toes with the FE :D This gen it really doesn't matter which card you go with on a performance perspective as it is basically defined by silicone lottery on both core and memory , the more expensive cards seem a recipe for extra coil whine if anything rather than extra performance :p

why can't you overclock it ? locked core and memory ? power limited ? If AIB a bios flash can solve your issues ;)
Power limited, also don't have much PSU headroom. Mostly bought it to render on. Need it to run cool and quiet for long stretches at high utilization. I've been tinkering with some games the last couple of days. Seems to do ok. :)

you can still overclock the core and memory without touching the power just wont be as high as one with a 600W+ limit although tbh past the point of diminishing returns at 500w as per @LtMatt finding . If you did want to have a play about though then would be no issue flashing another bios on to your card especially considering its watercooled , temps will not be an issue at all :) Time to upgrade that PSU , you own a 4090 ;)

I can feel a price drop coming :p Will be interesting to see if Nvidia do drop it, if people will still go 7900xtx given a 4080 is arguably better in a few areas even with current pricing.
Nvidia will probably drop the 4080 to 1k then bring out a 4080ti for £1200 and the 4070ti for £800

That is original thinking. Better than getting one for my brother/nephew/cousin.

Will keep an eye out! ;)

I've already got one and it was from someone with a code on here. I love the guy but he isn't having mine

Wow the 4080 is still in stock from the 14:00 drop

I think the reality is most people see the only thing the 4080 does better, is RT and most people don't seem to give a crap about RT. No matter how much RT fans bleat to the contrary, it is really not high on tha majority's must have list. I mean the best I can say is that I personally consider considering it, so £150 extra for a 4080 is just about within "worth it to me" territory, but certainly only just and only because both are over £1k. So personally at current pricing I would be edging more towards a 4080 for the better RT.

Of course power efficiency matters as well but 50W extra over a 4080 is not deal breaking. The other issues I think will be solved in drivers.

All things considered £150 - £200 less cost for similar or slightly better raster, an extra 8GB VRAM, smaller size and uses normal power connectors. Just those points alone clearly make it more attractive for many people. Not to mention that £150 - £200 will get you your RAM, or a motherboard, or an extra SSD, or bring you up a tier (or even two) on your CPU.

So I can see a 4080 price drop soon considering how well received the 7900 XTX has been by the actual people that matter (buyers). I mean as you pointed out, Nvidia dropped some RTX 4080 FE stock to "disrupt" the 7900 XTX launch and they are still in stock 8 hours later. That level of "up yours Nvidia" from buyers is unheard off. So if Nvidia do yet another 4080/4090 price drop then AMD just need to do the same, the 7900 XTX still remains a more attractive proposition because it "costs under £1k".

Strangely even though I would take a 4080 at current prices. If the 7900 XTX was £950 and the 4080 was £1100, I would have had the, "it's under £1k" feels and the 4080 would not get a look in.
