NVIDIA 4000 Series

I doubt it, probably not even a minor dent.
Well despite a lot of reviews saying if you're going to spend out and get a 7900XTX then the 4080 makes more sense, people are buying the XTX and not the 4080.

When mindshare is lost its not easy to get it back as Intel have found out the last few years.

True but when you're already so far ahead in mindshare (How on earth is that even a thing) anyway it doesn't matter. NVIDIA are, and will continue to be on top for the foreseeable as t hey have been.

EK-Pro 4090 block with the terminals on the end and a cablemod 90 degree power cable adapter might work?
It would be so close. Looking at the case description on Lian Li it would appear there should be loads of room but my current 3080 block is 1cm shallower then teh 4090 blocks and it does nto appear that there is 1 cm spare in my case. Just do not want to splash the cash and risk it as it is so expensive

What I dont get is that a lot of cases are built for a max of 320mm cards.

Why have nearly all manufacturers gone slightly above that?

With Ampere you still had most cards below that. 4080FE is only 304mm.

To help sell cases? it feels like everyone is helping each out.

1 - Reduce SATA ports, to make people replace SATA SSDs with NVME.
2 - Reduce PCIE slots so people replace PCIE sound/capture with USB variants.
3 - Roll out new power supply syste, to sell some PSUs and eventually new boards.
4 - Roll out DDR5 to shift new memory sticks.
5 - Make GPUs bigger to sell new cases.
6 - Make GPUs require insane power also to help sell PSUs.
7 - Rollout PCIE5 to boost margins on boards.
8 - Reduce some GPU SKUs to 8 lanes only to help sell boards and CPU's.

Have I missed anything?

Yeah you're completely wrong, you missed that

Ah, the "confusing" 4080 12 gig.

And even uses the same coolers, so now we have a GPU that based on the specs and what we've seen from the 4080 likely will average under 250w in games and yet some models will have 3.5 to 4 slot coolers

And the buyers who would be in the price range for this card likely don't want a huge GPU nor have the space for it.

And this stage the huge coolers are a complete waste, not just because the cards don't output enough heat to make use of the coolers but because the buyer had to pay for something they can't use and all those materials were mined and produced just to provide zero value whatsoever, like throwing economic output in the toilet

The price label says 172229.00. It’s Serbian so that’s £1293

As per the Reddit post - The price is high because Serbia has a monopoly on pc hardware imports and high taxes. The guy says the same store is selling the RTX4080 from 1700 Euro and going up and 4090 for 2500

That’s suggests the £899 predicted price is right for the UK then. It could have course be higher as the msrp for the 4080 in Europe is €1469. That means that particular gigabyte card is going to be around £1099.

I know Nvidia mindshare is strong but a 12GB 4070 Vs the faster 20GB 7900XT, does not look good at all. And the AMD is a terrible buy, what does that make the 4070.
