I remember this time last gen when some folk were jesting with terms like fake frames and people were defending it no problem. Fickle lot considering many bought the Ada series..

The only way I could fit a Suprim 5090 in my case is mounting it normally, removing my bottom 140mm fans and replacing with 120mm so I could put the anti-sag bracket in there. I only have 10cm spare and that isn't enough. I'll worry about that for the next gen. Don't do reference cards.

The 5080 really needed to have 20GB of VRAM.. its a 70 class card with an 80 badge..

Let's break it down into statistics shall we. Even if I liked frame generation's artifacts and ghosting, which I don't, the problem is that Nvidia frame gen is only supported in 75 games

In 2024, 19,000 new games were launched on Steam. That means 0.003% of games in 2024 have frame generation, yet Nvidia based their entire sales pitch on these 0.003% of games... and the idiots lapped it up

How many of those games weren't 2d pixel art rogue-like metroidvania games? How many couldn't be played by an iGPU, etc etc. How many actually need FG?

oh that's good, i will stick with my 3090 then and skip the 4xxx and 5xxx series...

Again these to me are just none logical justification, looking for reasons to upgrade, rather than thinking about it scientifically. I have a 6800XT that plays all games absolutely fine, 99% of which in high or ultra settings smoothly, I have a 144hrz variable refresh screen, so if it goes to 48 fps thats fine as the screen refresh changes so no tearing.

Very much in my ‘reality’ phase vs what i think is ‘needed’ emotionally.

If someone gave me a 5090 id have it, wouldn’t make ANY difference in the games i play though, would run smooth, vs abit more smooth but still an identical game.

Like you’ve said, for the games YOU play it makes no difference. Whereas for me it would make a big difference as I own a 4K 240hz monitor

5000 series FPS:

This puts the 5080 at 10% faster than 4090 and the 5070Ti 10% faster than 4080. Far Cry 6 is also heavily CPU single-thread bottlenecked so I think the Plague Tale numbers are more relevant.

5070 as fast as 4070Ti. Looks like a really nice generation for the price. I imagine the 5070 will become the most popular GPU on Steam in a few months.

Have to say I’m tempted by the 5080, but running a 4070ti Super it’s all about them benchmarks and comparisons to the 40 series.

If it’s not that much more impressive, half tempted to see if I can pick up a 4090 for a similar price if everyone is flogging them to get a 5090.
