NVIDIA 5000 SERIES

But the 4090 is already only 25% - 30% faster than the 4080s. If the replacement to the 4080 is not actually at least 20% faster then that’s a fail. I think for this reason the 5080 must logically be touching the heels of a 4090.

Surely Nvidia aren’t giving you mediocre 5% - 10% extra performance with nothing but promises?

The 5080 only has 5% more cores than the 4080 SUPER and 30% more memory bandwidth. It'll gain the most at high resolutions where memory is the bottleneck but, overall, it's not going to be much faster than the 4080 SUPER, no.

Custom AIBs will cost £100 more
are you high?

what was the 4090 FE like 1600?

how many 4090 owners paid 1700 then?
I didn't

they will cost from 200-500 more minimum. AIB isn't the exact same reference PCB with just a different plastic wrap and a different heatsink fan btw.

Custom AIBs price was £100 more. It was been like that for every generation.
On the cheap skus you are correct but only for a short period around the time of release and are on an upwards trend from then ...

I got a 4090 Zotac Trinity OC on release day from OCUK ( thanks Gibbo :D ) and was £1810 so £110 extra and it was a OC model... unfortunately it did end up having faulty fans and was returned and I got the FE then but regardless was just over £100 extra for a AIB card albeit a cheaper one ...

This gen probably starts at £200 over the msrp for the cheaper cards but we shall see soon enough

I got a FE for £1700 and a AIB for £1810 both within 2 weeks of 12th oct release date

For what it’s worth I paid:

4090 FE for £1,519 (September 23)
4090 Gigabyte Gaming OC for £1,679 (October 23)
4090 Aorus Master for £1,879 (September 23)

There were loads around… that’s about a year after launch though. They’ve only been much more expensive really recently.

All returned for noise / fan issues and gave up.

but all he prices say coming soon and no doubt the cheaper ones never had stock.
3 of these are almost the same FE price (fe was 1650? then quickly 1680?) there's no way they actually launched at that surely.

almost every AIB card was +200 though

don't forget some of those had much better power delivery than others.

Umm, did Roman let something slip here...

At 7:20, he says "I mean the 5080 is already slower than the 4090" and he states it as a plain fact rather than a supposition.

Probably 5-10% slower. But who knows. He might be guessing based on specs.

RTX 5070 Ti 16GB – £729

Smart money is on this imo. Nice balance. Should be a little faster than a 4080 and at a lower price.

My guess is 4090 performance at best. But likely 5-10% slower at raster.

What people don't seem to be talking about is how it might be much better at RT performance however. We may have say 10% slower raster but 30% or more better RT performance.

If that happens people like mrk would defo be upgrading as the only thing the 4090 is struggling with is RT/PT.

so few games with low RT performance though, unless people really want the frame gen.

also anything demanding coming out anytime sooon? 6000 series will no doubt be launching as GTA6 finally hits PC

Yep looks about right if not a bit high on some of them , the Zotac Trinity OC i got was £1810 ( just checked order on Oct 12th 2022) and is listed at £1860 on that pic ... pretty sure some non oc models were near on msrp at £1700... i wasn't on the site at 2pm as was going mad on the Nvidia site trying to get an FE and after failing for an hour came here upset as most were gone on here by then but Gibbo see one of my post and reached out to me saying a couple haven't sold /failed orders and can sort me one out ... he didn't need to ask twice

I checked prices regularly after that and as mentioned earlier were only going up .

So £700 over the FE which was £1700 at release , yeah that Astral will be up near £2800 if not £3000 for the air cooled version.... rog tax has gotten worse over the years as my 3090 Strix was £1700 at release which was £200 over the FE .

I do like the look of the Astral but not a chance in hell I'm paying that much for it plus the fact it will eventually be watercooled once a block arrives I will try for the FE or possibly a TUF model ....

I think with the way the £ (gbp to usd) and UK economy is going (10y gilt) any 5090 bought now will appreciate in value (in £ worth) over it's lifetime, imagine that

The thing is and why I am not going anywhere near it and there's a few reasons at least for myself.

1. It's on the same fabrication process.
2. It's using 125w more power.
3. It has a bigger die than the 4090.
4. It has GDDR7 compared to 6x on the 4090.
5. It cost £500 more LOL.

So for allegedly 20-30% bump in performance what the hell has Nvidia been doing for R&D for the last 2 years because I am struggling to see anything at all other than Frame gen crap which I have no interest in.
Its all gone into AI performance which has over doubled as that's what Nvidia cares about now.
