NVIDIA 5000 SERIES

2 years of training AI models for the new frame gen.

I guess that's where all the R&D will go now.

Shame games can't do the same to fix their performance
Yeah it looks like it because I can't see anything else on the hardware front.

It's just.ore excuses for lazy devs.

Just a random thought for the next gen of RTX cards, the RTX6000, Nvidia decides to take a leaf from the car manufacturers, Features on Demand, MTX incoming for computer owners.

There is something fishy about the 5070 and 5070ti...

In reality the line up is as such:

5060 (with a 5070 sticker on)
5070 (with a 5070ti sticker on)
5080
5090

Yeah. They have been up to this for a while now. It is what it is. You can either buy or not in the end.

I think that's being generous, the 5080 is more like the 5070ti and the rest being shifted down a tier.

They're doing what they did with the 4080 unlaunch tomfoolery, except they're doing it with every card except the 5090.

Yeah, the 5080 is half the 5090 pretty much, which in the past had been reserved for the *070 cards. Sadly this is the hand we're dealt as @TNA pointed out. If you have a performance bracket in mind for an upgrade and want it this gen then you can only go with the options available or hold out for another year or two (and I can't imagine the mid-cycle refreshes will be much (if at all) better value wise). In my case the target is 2x the performance of my current card so the 5080 fits the bill, just a shame it's £1k with only 16GB VRAM.

I'm not sure what to do, I've been saving for awhile to upgrade to a 50xx but I'm not sure if the 5080 will be big enough over the 3080, and the 5090 is too expensive.

The 5080 is about 80% faster than your 3080, so workout if 80% more fps will achieve your desired performance target. If you need more performance, the 5090 will be about 120% faster than your 3080

5080 spec ia utterly disappointing - the gap between xx80 and xx90 has never been so big.

Interesting perspective you guys have on 5080/5090 and the gap between them.

I’m coming from a 3080 to a 5080 and the jump up is going to be big for me.

Most likely a 5080 Super will arrive at some point.

5080 will smash your 3080.

Define "smash".

The 4080 SUPER is about 50% faster than an original 3080 and the 5080 doesn't look like being much faster.

Yes 50-60% is a significant bump plus 60% more VRAM of course but I don't call that "smashing" it and it's a rather underwhelming increase for nearly 4.5 years.

But the 3090 to 5090 will have a 100 percent increase minimum

Am wondering if a 5080ti or super will come out with more vram and a 384bit memory interface

Is 384bit with GDDR7 memory even possible

Given that no 50 series card has a 384-bit bus I find it extremely unlikely they'd create a whole new board just for a 5080Ti/SUPER. They're also highly unlikely to jump all the way to 512-bit.

Yes of course 384-bit is technically possible. Doesn't matter what generation of GDDR it is, the chips have a 32-bit interface so they'd need to be in multiples of 12, so 12/24/36GB.
