NVIDIA 5000 SERIES

Hadn't realised but since finishing Cyberpunk about a year ago now I haven't played any "ray traced" games specifically. I've only been interested in always having HDR as I bought a 4k OLED monitor.

So I was quite set on a 5090 initially but now it's really just the crazy FE cooler engineering that's attracting me. Had an RTX 4080 since launch and DLSS has improved enough to allow decent performance at 4K.

some people have longer warranty on their cards? but yeah same I'd only buy from a reputable store. its a nice in between 5080 5090 card though

There is no way in hell I would pay £1000+ for a used graphics card though. If it breaks a month later then what?
Wouldn't even pay that on a 2nd hand woman.
You buy one with warranty, the seller can provide the invoice to you..
I got mine on release and still have just under 2 years left.. which then we will be on the verge of the 6000 release. I can see why people think that paying over £1000 for a 2nd hand CPU is crazy but just like Nvidia using AI to get there FPS indicator to ridiculous numbers and the 5080 all pointing to have minor uplifts, you have to see the 4090 as the 2nd best card on the market.. which puts it directly between £1000 and £2000.

Some people would have only just brought there 4090's, so they have pretty much 2 more GPU generations of warranty still left depending on the AIB.

Yes it's still 2nd hand but if you have good warranty still on it i think that outweighs the 2nd hand arguement.

You try and use that warranty...

I have.. i upgraded my 3090 on release to the 4090 and gave the 3090 to my brother... it died after a few months of him having it and i returned it and after about 2 weeks they gave us a 4080 as they didnt have any 3090's to replace it with. It was actually a very easy process.

I think there's a difference between your brother's old GPU and some random person on the internet's old gPU in terms of ease of warranty claims. I'd trust a relative or a friend to RMA a broken card for me. I'd not trust someone I didn't know.

You returned it though, as the original purchaser?

The manufacturer doesn’t need to provide a warranty that covers subsequent owners. I wouldn’t rely on them honouring such a warranty - in buying used, you’ve taken a sale away from them… why should they bother? With that said, they may do so for good will purposes regardless.

Haven't posted on these forums since I got my 4090 at launch, I have took the easy option and offloaded my 4090 at CEX maybe not the best price but the simplest option for me. I have a 4070 FE that I bought for my second machine back in April 23, I've moved that into my main machine now so hopefully can get a 5090 FE at launch!

A quick google shows what manufacteurs allow transfer of warranty which is basically all the big names.

By the way i do actually agree, i would never pay £1000 or over for a 2nd hand GPU.. im just stating what i think may help to hold there value over a 5080.. but we will see. I have 0 intention of selling mine as i dont think the uplift is worth the hassle of selling and everything i throw at it in max settings at 1440p works flawlessly.

Are the reviews out for these tomorrow or next week? I've not long finished watching the Gamers Nexus video on the cooler, looks like a lot of engineering went into the 5090 to make it a 2 slot cooler!
