NVIDIA 5000 SERIES

Haven't they been doing this since the GTX680.
Modern GPU market is all about selling lower tier for higher prices. People still buy, why would we expect companies to change?

They've been doing it progressively each generation for awhile, I've posted about it quite a bit but some people even defend it :(

The people doing this are basically defending themselves as they intend to buy or have bought.

Eventually the price gets to a point where even these individuals start to moan. Case in point Grim. Went from "smashing his 3090 with hammer" to moaning nonstop about the 5090

Would matter to me of i played fps games online or something. Single player games which many I play with a controller, not so much of an issue.

I come from 8bit cartridge console games where everythingwas crap. 50ms latency really is not that bad imo.

What's funny is that my 3090 fe I paid retail at only 1.2k 4 plus years ago

If accurate I am surprised nobody else has been calling this out. Based on current performance estimates it looks like Nvidia are pushing everything below the 5090 up one tier on pricing.

- Old 80 class is now gone
- 70 Ti tier renamed to 80 class for $200 more
- 70 tier now renamed to 70 Ti for $150 more
- 60 Ti tier now renamed to 70 for $150 more.

Even the 5090 is giving similar price/perf to a 4090 because it has had a 25% MSRP increase.
That's being generous, the 5080 now has less shaders in relation to to full GB202 than the 3060ti, 2060super and 760ti had for their respective architectures.

What is jayz not telling us...?

That Nvidia paid him off in 5090s to make 5000 series look good in reviews

No way is a 5080 better than a 4090 in traditional non-upscaling benchmarks. Then 4090s really would be worth £1k or below second hand.
Maybe only it comes close in heavily ray-traced games, but I don't see it being more than 20% raster performance improvement from a 4080S...

Jayz is the pinnacle nV shill par excellence. Not only is he hawking product, but he's a commensurate middle-brow hobbiest talking head. He's the Reddit PC Master Race reference, as it were.

He used to at least have a bit of deference to veracity and subtility in his messaging. Now, it's straight-up car salesman drivel.

In this case, he'll fall back directly on the "features are as important as traditional performance" message to substantiate what he's pushing -- a line taken directly from the nV reviewer's guidance.

Based on the DF discussion a few days ago, I feel some people on this forum think DF are just as bad as J2C when it comes to Nvidia shilling, which is laughable.

Bah. DF backed and forthed in their last discussion, but their concensus was clear (and incidentally on the mark):

1) Performance uptick of the 5-series will be in line with what we have previously seen with mid-gen refreshes e.g. 1070 to 1070 Super
2) This isn't a node refresh, and it's getting harder to improve raw compute -- so a massive increase isn't expected
3) The industry is squarely moving towards other methods/features that "improve" performance, each with their detractions
4) MSRP/RRP makes it look price/performance reasonable -- but 99% of people will be paying notably more retail, so it's bait and switch
5) Don't upgrade if you have a 4-series

As much as I like DF content and the way they present benchmarks, I can't help but feel disappointed with their coverage over the past few years. It's been spotty at best, especially on the CPU side. They missed a fair few parts, like the 7800X3D and other launches. Honestly makes me feel a little sus as to whey they weren't doing some reviews. Also the comparisons they make nowadays, aren't always complete or showing the most relevant parts at all the resolutions, etc.

I sure hope with these upcoming GPUs, they do release thorough reviews, showing the complete info.
