NVIDIA 5000 SERIES

For once, i'm somewhat looking forward to work next week. The sooner it starts, the sooner the Friday reviews are here. Gosh, i'm really sad aren't I. Someone send help!
I think it's actually Thursday. Videocardz updated their embargo page the other day with more information.

Ah, thank you. I still have Friday 24th in my head from the first leak when MSRP and non-MSRP card reviews were said to be going live on the same day.

Well was thinking/hoping to get the 5080, but looking at the forecasted possible performance “increase” I’m unsure now.

For anyone like me coming from the higher mid-end like a 4070Ti Super I’m kinda of stuck in a middle ground. As the 5080 would possibly be a 20-30% jump maybe, with the same vram. But even the 9070XT is looking likely to match a 4070Ti so that’s not really an option.

The only viable way to upgrade is a used 4090, but to pay £1000+ for card well over 2 year old with no warranty just sounds insane.
If there's nothing worth upgrading to... just wait. 4070ti S is decent enough right now, nothing launching in the coming weeks will be a worthwhile upgrade from that.

As folks have said, better to wait minimum 2 generations before upgrading nowadays, unless coming from a budget GPU, going to high end.

Or wait 2 gens to buy previous gen much cheaper -that's what I've switched to with CPU and mobo etc. And so far winning on it. :)

How many people are on fence between the 5080 and 5090? 16GB VRAM aside it's half the cost of the 5090 so is tempting to save the money towards an OLED monitor!
There are a few here, but it's such a big jump, that there won't be as many making the decision as previous generations. Just think, if you get the 5080, you could probably get the 6080 as well in 2 years and have spent about as much as a 5090 costs.

If you are in the market for a new monitor as well and you consider the price difference a big cash saving, then yes 5080 is probably the way to go.

These cards aren't worth spending an uncomfortable amount of money, same as any shiny tech really.

This is my thinking as well, especially if Nvidia decide to release the 60 series Q4 2026 I can just get the 6080 or 90 then instead!

I should be okay using an Evga 750 supernova G2 for the 5070ti?

Or should I buy a newer PSU with the right connections?

Thanks.
A PSU with the "right connections" in no way determines the quality of the PSU. The 5070 ti will come with an adapter for you to adapt your two 4-pin PCI-E cables to a 16-pin. Without knowing the rest of your system, that's a high-quality PSU and it should be fine for the 5070 ti.

Incidentally, I've been using a 1000w Supernova with an adapter on a 4090 for two years and it worked great.

Sorry I'm not following, the only card that is a big jump that I can see is the 5090 over the 4090. It looks like the 5080 is only 5% better than the 4080S.

The 5080 this is the equivalent of what a previous generations 70 card when you look at how far it's been cut compared to the flagship. There's never been as big a gap between the flagship and 80 card.

If you're willing to buy a 5080 you probably aren't coming from a 4080. The jump from the 5080 to 5090 is massive - double the price and potentially worse availability if the rumours are to be believed. Buying a 5080 + 6080 (in c.2yrs) will cost roughly the same as buying a 5090 now. So if in doubt, buy the 5080 and upgrade in 2 years when a new node should help drive a bigger performance improvement.

Maybe I misinterpreted the original post I replied to, but because it was referring to buying the 5080 now then buying the 6080 I assumed he buys every generation and in my opinion the performance difference just isn't big enough and if anyone has a 4080 SUPER it makes even less sense as it looks like it's only 5% difference and dlss4 is going to be compatible with earlier card albeit not the complete feature.

Also just on a side note if the original poster does have a 4080 or 4080S, he should definitely hold onto his card and upgrade his monitor. No point in having a top graphics card but his monitor only has 120hz 1080p monitor (I don't know what he has, just an example for those who might have a great gpu but with a 10 year old monitor)

When you use 2x frame gen to get to 165 on your monitor, your base rate is actually dropping to around 82fps to stay within the monitors refresh rate (with vsync on). If you used MFG 4X to get to 165fps, the base rate will be only around 42fps which will not feel good at all.

Those who want 400fps in a game are usually playing competitively and require the lowest latency. MFG will not give that since at 400fps the base rate will be around 100fps.
2X frame gen should be the max you should use for any monitor less than 240Hz.
Depends how it will be on the 5xxx, but FG (2x), doesn't always give you 2x the performance. For 165fps he's most likely doing around 100fps constantly at the base fps.

Yes my monitor is 7 years old 4K/60hz so definitely need an upgrade. I had a 4090 until this week when I sold it, so currently using my 4070 founders edition which is from my older rig. Using the 4070 more has made me realise that the 4090 was probably overkill which in turn means the 5090 will be. So my thinking has gone that the 5080 will be a huge upgrade over the 4070 and give me access to the 50 series features. It’ll also give me spare cash vs the 5090 to buy a more up to date high refresh OLED which I’d have to do anyway if I went for the 5090.

To be honest mate, I think you would be better going for the 5070ti. It would be a big upgrade and the difference between that and the 5080 isn't going to give any noticeable difference in performance during games and it's a 16gb card and also gives you an extra £250 in your sky rocket to go towards a good monitor.

I'm just offering a opinion, it's what you thinks best. I think the 3rd party reviews will be key to most people's decisions.
