NVIDIA 5000 SERIES

I wish reviewers would drop 1440p testing as it's mostly pointless, with 4090 class and faster GPU's, it's really time to stop benching these cards at less than 4K as they just aren't made for such a low resolution and the CPU's can't keep up.
completely agree, using a 90 class card to do 1080p and 1440p is pretty much completely pointless. Nobody is buying those cards for those resolutions unless they're playing super competitive FPS

I disagree, 1440p and even 1080 are relevant because of DLSS upscaling.

I see they are still using the same thermal pads used in 30 series I think even before that, changing the pads on 3080 drastically lowered memory temps
Yeah, the 3080 and 3090 FEs were unbearably loud, enough to ruin the experience when playing without headphones.

It literally sounded like my PC was going to explode when playing Quake 2 RTX.

So many people are fawning over the 5090FE's aesthetics but is it really that important compared to cooling performance and noise?

Yup, I like my chonky 4090 FE, fills the bottom half of my case nicely, but more importantly, runs nice and cool.

I like it for the at purpose, too. Provides a rough give of what you can expect with DLSS quality and performance.

Good points. On one hand, this might suggest the gap between 40 and 50 series cards might be reduced any time you’re using DLSS (as it’s not so GPU limited).

But then again you’re more likely to use DLSS with ray tracing… and as soon as you’re using raytracing as well, I presume it’ll then swing back in favour of the 50 series (widening the gap) since those are supposed to be better at RT.

Not always because RT puts even more load on the CPU.

I assume these will be a few hours before launch so people can make an educated buy on what AIB they might want?
Well if today's 5090 NDA was anything to go by then it's the usual 2pm UK time for the reviews. However, orders for cards will also be at 2pm UK time on Thurs 30th Jan for both the 5090 and 5080. So you'll have to be really quick if your aim is to go for a 5080.

The 5080 fe review comes out the day before launch

Makes as much sense as audi taking the even numbers as electric cars so no more rs4/6.

What's wrong with brands killing of stepl names.
Worse is AMD making their supposed next xx70 level card named 9070 instead of something in line with their previous numbering scheme which would make it a 9700XT or 9800XT. Not sure why they felt the need to "take" Nvidia's numbering scheme.

Important to note that DLSS comes with an overhead in frame rate and VRAM usage compared to native 1080p / 1440p.

I've only seen the HUB 5090 review. I applaud them for not taking part in the multi-frame gen fantasy of performance. He did drop a spoiler about their deep dive into that tech coming up, hinting that the image quality and a native-style latency is not going to be the case. I was still otherwise alarmed how much DLSS Quality was used in their benchmarks.

Personally can't stand Daniel Owen. There are too many school teacher windbags turned Youtubers who take forever to say almost nothing, as required in their vocation of hypnotising children for the duration of a lesson. I for one certainly don't need that in my hardware reviews.
