NVIDIA 5000 SERIES

Does thermal putty generally last longer than thermal paste and liquid metal? Although I saw some critique towards Palit for using thermal paste at all on these.
I wasn't even to spot anything about the fan noise in that Aorus Master review, did anyone see something about that? I'm curious where it stands compared to the Suprim and FE on that point.

Edit: From what I learned about liquid metal, I also hope to never have to do any maintenance on that myself. I'm way too worried I will ruin my card messing with that stuff..

Until I feel it for myself, I'm not going to know one way or the other.

Exactly. I thought FG would be completely crap. Was surprised in the end.

But yes. You really do need at least 75fps by the looks of it before bothering to enable.

Like I am getting around 60fps in Silent Hill 2 and when I enable it and move camera around you get artifacts galore. So I don't use it on that game.

Stock Update from PC store in California

Summary:

* This is the worst and tightest Nvidia launch we've ever experienced.

* We won't have any 5090 cards for sale on January 30, there is no supply and the first shipments aren't arriving till mid February

* We might have some 5080 for sale but we still don't know which models and how many

* 5070ti stock is available by March

So much for Nvidia stuffing the US with supply to beat the tarrifs. They’ve literally only just started making the cards. What a mess.

People already camping outside US retailer lol, this shop only getting single digit stock, other shops basically getting 0 as well. Pretty much called it, this is nvidia you know, king of papers

I don't know about this card specifically but with other Aorus Master products and/or closely related Gigabyte designs the performance (normal) BIOS is reasonable noise wise up until high utilisation states where it can be on the noisier side but not excessive, but if that bothers you the silent BIOS significantly reduces noise at only a small penalty to temperatures and usually no (or very minimal) performance loss at stock settings but may reduce max potential overclocks.

Dlss 4 should help with that.

Is that code for “I have one on preorder”? ;)

To be fair I'm holding out for the 5070 Ti for final judgement, but the 5090 and 5080 are very underwhelming, not just for my use case, but from the metric of lack of progress, power consumption and price VS previous gens. I would go as far to say this might be the most disappointing generation from Nvidia I've ever seen.

10fe cards all earmarked for scalpers and everyone else squabbling over a few dozen ridiculously overpriced AIB cards.
Meanwhile, AIB complain MSRP is a charity and they can't get even close to that price with their designs. Everyone wants a cut but also this seems to be consistent continuation of Nvidia trying to get rid of AIBs and take over retail market directly. They can't just tell them to go away so instead they charge them so much they can't compete in pricing with FE versions and then let people blame AIB for being greedy. And it seems to be working.

Camping out has begun for some Yanks. What a time to be alive. No point doing that in the UK as there is zero stock.
The thing I never understood is how do people, who ostensibly have enough money to buy a $2000 video game toy, have time in their lives to do this? I used to work in Times Square and remember watching out my of office window grown-a%£ adults lining up a day or two outside Toys R Us for the newest consoles (PS4 launch being the worst, most hilarious to watch). I dunno, but my time is worth way more than that.

I’ve had ASUS products including higher end monitors and touch the wood, never had problems.

What issues have you experienced?
I've had 2 Asus laptops (more expensive models), and a GPU - every time I contacted their support, even with just simple question to confirm which LCD panel is in my specific laptop (as there were 2 versions on there market with different power use), I never was able to get any good responses and generally their support was always one of the worst I've ever encountered. Which was later confirmed by GN investigation and supposedly they were working on fixing it. And yes, my graphics card was shot and one of the laptops had issues too - I've sold them all and won't touch Asus again. MSI on the other hand never had any issues with support.

Not having stock seems a blessing.

The power consumption, the lack of performance improvement from 4000 series, the price.

No one is actually buying these?
price to performance is same as the 4090.
not everyone has a 40 series so some of us are looking to upgrade from 20/30 series.

The 4090 coming from the 3090 was a really great improvement. The 5090 not so, over 700W for a extra 15% - 30%. Have to do some real mental gymnastics to view this gen as anything but a disappointment in any metric, price, performance, power consumption.
