NVIDIA 5000 SERIES

I see another store has list prcing today, surely at least some of them are place holders, only 4 cards listed though

Asus RTX5090 Astrial Graphics Card - £3000
Gigabyte RTX 5090 Aorus Master Graphics Card £3000
MSI RTX 5090 Vanguard LAUNCH EDITION - £9999.00
Palit RTX 5090 Gamerock - £9999.00

I see the cocaine bucket at ASUS HQ is once again overflowing because only in a pinging state that would put the entire 1980s to shame would I put out a graphics card for £3000 with a straight face.

So the way I'm looking at it, is as a new generation of graphics cards, that is probably the most disappointing Nvidia have ever launched. What generation a potential buyer is coming from, isn't relevant in that context. In regards to your options, a cheap used GPU would provide far more bang for buck.
Again, what cheap gpu can i buy brand new that is on par with a 4090?

I tell you what, If the 5080 was the exact same performance as a 4090, that would actually be a viable alternative but it is not.

Nvidia shares are already down 13% today and falling. They are not alone, any company remotely involved in AI is falling and it's created a $1.2 trillion market cap loss across the world.

The reason is a company called Deepseek, who claim to have developed an LLM model that's performance is on par with ChatGPT, and was built in a few months for just $6 million.

The market fears those could mean AI models no longer need lots of expensive hardware like Nvidia GPUs

Personally, coming from a 2080ti and seeing how this launch is shaping up, I'm going to look a bagging a cheap second hand deal on a 4080 or 4090 (missed a couple on MM already).

I'd still get a massive boost whichever I managed to get, plus probably half the pot that I'd built up for a 5090 would still be there ready to take forward for an upgrade in the future.
Half the pot? The 4090 in MM etc are selling for very close to 5090 prices and thats the issue.

4090 for 700? maybe but anything higher for a second hand component where god knows how it has been treated by the original user and how long it wil last for? Na i rather get a brand new gpu card

They must be holding prices as they also have

Asus RTX 5080 Prime - £3000
Palit RTX 5080 Gamerock - £9999.00
MSI RTX 5080 Liquid Suprim - £9999.00

Wow that is huge news

nvidia have stopped making 4090's. I don't want to buy used. you can run the 5090 at 450w and get 3 more fps than stock.

Yup. this is good

Imagine paying £3k for a 5080 ASUS prime…

Surely placeholder pricing, perhaps just playing with it to get publicity *shrug*
With the pricfes being teh same for both 5080 and 5090 i am hoping they are just holding prices, the £9k ones have to be buty i can see the Astral and Master 5090 being around the £3K mark

When it comes to breakthroughs in China I approach it like GPUs and wait for third party benchmarks.

Would be cracking news if true though, we might get our GPUs back!

Main thing it's open source and the algorithm for training has been published as well, I'm curious to see what happens. I'm certain it's a bit of an overreaction, AI is absolutely going to need more GPU horsepower in order to keep improving

There's been a couple in the last week or so go for £1250, so pretty close to half the close to half of what some of these AIB 5090's are going to be coming in at, assuming people will even be able get one at all.

The Chinese are showing the benefits of optimising code. https://evrimagaci.org/tpg/nvidia-and-asml-stocks-plunge-amid-deepseek-ai-competition-162924

Probably just some local homeless people.
Yeah, possibly really smart homeless people.
Willing to trade their place in the que to the highest bidder.

Whilst I'm here, anyone want to exchange a 5090 for a Crate of Prime?
(Prob one of the only things that tanked harder than my 3090)

I've seen the 4090s have gone up in price on the fleabay since the embargos have lifted. £1,400 to £1,700
My Suprim X is also being listed for around £650 (so would loose around £1.5k) considering switching to a 5080 if they can be had for around £1.1k

Dunno if any of you guys pay attention to the stock market. But Nvidia is on track for the biggest one day loss of any company in history
Wowzers. Is this due to this cards launch?
I sold some Tesla and split between Nvidea, AMD and Meta.
Nvidea was flying (around 10% up) a few days ago. Now Nvidea and AMD in the Red.
May be a tech stock drop and not just Nvidea.

To be fair, they have shot up a great amount over last few years.

I hope you didn't buy Nvidea shares because you bought the wrong ones. Nvidia on the other hand... :D
